I jus installed a new straight out of the box maxtor 120 gig hdd, with hdloader, and it said that my 120 only had 114 free space. So at first i was like, "damn, this thing takes up a lot of space." But I thought nothing of it. I made the big mistake of jus going on with loading all my games. After a while i thought to myself to delete few games to make way for games that i play the most and most often. After deleting the games i saw that 24 gigs where unaccounted for...has anyone come across this problem, either the 120 registering as less space available or if when deleting games the space is stil taken up?

I would hate to reformat (if its possible) the drive, but if it needs to be done, then it needs to be done.

as far as the drive initially showing 114GB free, it's all marketing. 1 MB is actually 1024k, where as most people (and hd manufacturers) equate 1 MB as 1000k.

Wouldnt this mean that i have more space than what it says on the hdloader screen?

not really , a 120gb drive should give you about 117GB on averege. i know also that hd loader creates a partition for itself (don't remember the size). then also depending on your boot method ( ps2menu creates its own partition). also, from what i have read, hd loader rounds the hd size funny (a 2.9GB game shows up as 2GB).

Ah, now thats a better explanation , so this rounding method could be the explanation towards my missing 24 gigs?

not really a 100% explanation on the missing 24 gigs in total, but an explanation on some of the missing space.
