For S-Video the modulated colour sub-carrier has a signal lead of its own, instead of being mixed into the same lead as the luminance, blanking and sync signals, as is the case for a standard composite cable (as supplied by Sony for all PS1, PS2 and PS3 consoles).
Separating the colour carrier this way avoids the creation of some cross-modulation artifacts caused by the sync and blanking signals when using normal composite cable. So in this one respect the S-Video cable is superior. But that is all, and it is not sufficient for any really significant improvement of picture clarity.
The main problem of having colour transferred only as quadrature modulation of an RF sub-carrier signal remains. And the relatively low sub-carrier frequency still means that the demodulator has to reproduce each pixel from just a fraction of one sub-carrier cycle, which causes some inevitable blurriness.

i dont meen that the tv decodes the video file
i meant that video out is not required to be in ntsc format(and yes it does work) the input from composite would need to be in the format that the tv is in (i.e. ntsc for ntsc tv's and pal for pal tv's) however ifyou use an s-video cable or an component cable the video siginal out of your device dose not matter because s-video,component are not tied to any video format(tho when displaying a pal video on an ntsc tv may push some video outside the screen or even shorten the video to ware you would get black bars on the top or sides and the same is true for ntsc on pal tv's)
thanks for the info
Did PAL PS2 Linux carry a dvd update as well? I also remember seeing some golden cd-r type update disc but I think it was for ntsc-j only, did us pal users only get DVD Player Version 2.10 update? where as ntsc-u got DVD Player Version 2.12 also.

DVD update 1.00 (JPN only)
DVD update 1.01 (JPN only)
DVD update 2.00 (JPN only) - DVD Remote controller updater disc
DVD update 2.10 - DVD Remote controller updater disc
DVD update 2.10 - HDD Utility Disc 1.00
DVD update 2.12U (USA only) - HDD Utility Disc 1.00
DVD update 2.14 - PSBBN 0.20
DVD update 3.02U (USA only) - HDD Utility Disc 1.10
I tried to put the ****ing PSBBN 0.10 disc on my PS2 to check what DVD Player update it installs but then it ruined all the data on my hard drive by starting an install without even asking if I wanted to install.
I suppose I deserved that for putting an "scene hacked" disk on my PS2 :P

The pitfalls of trial and errorthanks for info.
I wiped the harddrive clean and I don't think I'll bother with installing FFXI to it either lol. (FFXI is being crappy to play on the PS2 atm ... too much bugs on PS2 and 360 versions. Almost like Square Enix were being too cheap to test it properly)
I'll just ZERO FILL it then toss the utility disc 1.00J and format it.
Oh well. That harddrive was last formatted in 2003.![]()
R.I.P.
I thought you had that backed up as raw .img files ready to put back on the hdd with winhex if anything went wrong. You didn't clone the whole drive?
