So that still region tied like the other .vob's?
Nope. The algorithm for reading the stuff inside the big VOB is contained in the 120kb vob file. That's the real loader for the disc.
If the two VOBs (KELFs) are hacked for region free, the disc will boot on any PS2.
Edit:
I posted PPF patches for making several utility discs (USA/JPN HDD Utility discs) and some PSBBN discs region free on another thread in this forum.

So all I need to do is change PBPX_952.08 into PS289.VOB?
Hm ...
It could work if you put the output.elf from the KELF as the PBX file. that's a good idea for trying ..... Don't keep your hopes high though.
It worked![]()
Seems I spoke too soon it failed when trying to copy the files to the mc in pcsx2, I hope that's just a problem of pcsx2, I'm gonna try a modified disc on my v9 ps2, I wonder if it'll say anything about it already having a newer version.

lol... when doing install of a DVD driver a real PS2 checks if the disc is original at least 5 times. That's also why modchips disrupt the install process.
Not to mention it won't work on an emulator obviously, since the emulator has no real mechacon neither emulates it in any useful way...
But well it was worth the try.
And no, it won't work from a CD-R even on the real thing for the reason I stated on the first line ...![]()
You sure it doesn't just check if the LBA and filesize has been changed? I didn't overwrite the PBPX_952.08 with PS289.VOB, I just changed the path in SYSTEM.CNF to
BOOT2=cdrom0:\FILES\PS289.VOB;1
VER=1.00
VMODE=PAL
so it's a few bytes smaller than this for insertion
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\PBPX_952.08;1
VER = 1.00
VMODE = PAL
and inserted the modified SYSTEM.CNF and decrypted PS289.VOB + PS289.VOB files with cdmage.
There's no reason for it to be spitting out that zones=USAAsiaRussiaChina since the disc is PAL Europe to start with, it should be spitting out zones=Eur or something, I suspect it's just a error in pcsx2.
