    Hi all ,

I have a PS2 V9 50002 , It plays PS2 and PS1 games perfectly , but does not play DVD movies originals or dvd-r's . The disk spins and it trys to read but doesnt . Sometimes I get DRE error .

I assume being a V9 I dont need the dvd player disk ? I have also installed Modbo4 thinking it will help and it hasnt . Do you guys think a weak laser is enough not to play dvd's ?

Also the dvd player version in the browser is 1.0

Thanks for any help in advance .

Your originals, are they single layer or dual layer? Are you burning your backups to a dvd-r or a dvd+r? If you're burning as a +r, are you changing the booktype?

Did you use high quality DVD-R discs like those Verbatim Datalife Plus DVD-R discs (Manufactured by Mitsubushi or Taiyo Yuden)?
What is the current brand of discs that you are using?

The only consoles that required the user to install the DVD player software onto a Memory Card with the DVD Player setup disc were the SCPH-10000 and SCPH-15000 consoles.

Only the 1st release of the SCPH-10000 console came with DVD player v1.00.

It seems odd that your DVD player version is v1.00 though - are you certain that there are no short-circuits caused by bad soldering?
    Unmodified SCPH-77006 with SM 3.6
SCPH-39006 with M-chip modchip, SCPH-10281 NA and refurb Seagate 80GB HDD
SCPH-10000 v1.00 with SCPH-10190 PCMCIA NA and SCPH-20400 HDD unit

Ok to update this thread , I have checked the DVD Player version and its v1.11 , also the issue was not playing ORIGINALS & DVD-R's .

My new laser came in and I have replaced the old one and is all good now . PS2 plays ORIGINALS & DVD-R's .

Also noticed the modchip wasnt booting DVD-r games , so I opened it up and had a look and found the 4 wires for the alternate points pulled off , must have happened when I was putting it all together . So I have resoldered and modchip works perfectly now .

Thank you for your help guys .
