Hey all! I managed to get the dvd play working but when i insert this one dvd in, it won't play. I get a 'can't read disc' error. I've tried cleaning the disc but it still won't work. I've tried it out on a friends dvd player and it runs fine, no problems but it wont work on my ps2. The other dvd's work fine tho. Any ideas?
I got a v10 btw, so i'm sure it should be able to read all types of dvd media.

Definitely try doing this. My v4 ps2 was having a hard time reading perfectly good ps2 originals and burned DVD-R movies so I said what the hay and opened it up to clean the lens. It definitely did the trick, games get read way faster and my DVD-R's now work every time instead of 1 in 20 tries like before. I recommend this to everyone who has disc read problems. Just use a q-tip with some rubbing alcohol. Be sure to dry it off when you are done with the dry side of the q-tip.

Or just send it in to Sony and have them repair it. Its a free repair but you will have to pay shipping to them. Check the link below because it will give you more info.

i will try cleaning the lens, but this is just my first ps2 and its only about 2 months old, so i really wasn't expecting to have to open it up so soon.

EDIT : Just incase, this isn't the normal 'disc read error' messages you get while playing certain games. I never did get that error. When i turn on the PS2, i get the Sony Computer Entertainment screen then the disc starts loading. After a few seconds, a black screen pops up and says 'Unable to read disc'

So should i clean the lens or not? It's just this one disc that gives me problems. nothing else

Ok, i just followed the instructions from a guide i found online and i cleant the lens. Put everything back together and inserted thed PS2 demo disc in (with fingers crossed), and it worked fine!
Now i put in the DVD which was giving me errors the last time around, and still no luck. All i get is the 'Unable to load disc' screen. I don't know what the matter is! Its a DVD 9 (dual layer), but i don't think that should matter because i got a v10 (50004).

I get a 'can't read disc' error on every movie I watch in my ps2. It happens about half way through, and I have to restart, go to scene selection, and choose a scene after the point it can't read. Will that laser cleaning help? I have put a laser cleaning disc in it and it made no difference. Is there anything else I can try?
