dvd problems –
09-06-2004,03:06 PM
Whenever I watch an actual dvd movie, like something bought from the store, it plays without a hitch.
But, whenever I play a burned dvd on my ps2(2x, as its the lowest my burner will go for some reason), it skips terribly. However, that same movie, on a standalone dvd player, will play just fine. any ideas?

It's a laser/media issue. Try another QUALITY media, write the disk into a decent writer at some acceptable speed (no 8x+, if possible) and test it. (Quality) standalone players have very good error correction, and they can play even bad quality disks without a hitch, while your PS2 probably has a weak laser that has to be tweaked/adjusted OR in worst case has to be replaced. That is why I advise NOT to use the PS2 for watching movies, it's not that good for the laser in the long run... by the way today's dvd writers can't write slower than 2x, which is acceptable with the lowest quality media aswell these days, so it's the writer that is unable to write slower, and because of the writer chipset. Unfortunatelly DVD-R V1.0 media cannot be burnt at 2x, but that media is out of stock by now, as it was manufactured some years ago.

Get Ritek, it's 0.5 usd each, and works perfectly in all consoles + standalone player. Dynex ? What dye does it use ? 40 for a 26 pack is quite expensive, you can get Ricoh/MCC or TY dye for that (or even lower) price.

I would love to buy them online.
But I have no means of doing so....
