wow , second one in a week having this trouble here ... sorry if i'll break your hope , but ... last time i had this msg on a PS2 , it was a fried bios , totally unrecoverable.
check if you can boot some original DVD games ( original is VERY important , because, dunno why , the messiah boot DVD-R using cd driver , not DVD ... strange one .. )
if you can't boot any original DVD games neither , most prolly your bios is fried , somewhere around the "n" leg of the bios if i remember well .
maybe charlie_ps2 can help you a little more , but from my experience , this msg is quite lethal ...

Here is a possible solution that had worked for a couple people but not others, first off does it list "DVD DRIVER VERSION XXXX" on the browser screen with no disc in, if not you driver has been deleted or is somehow being disabled (maybe by a loose mod wire)

A solution that has worked for a couple people but also didn't for others is to get the 'OFFICIAL SONY DVD REMOTE' it comes with a disc that updates the dvd drivers on the ps2, using this disc and installing these new drivers has solved the problem for some but not others like I said...Good luck

aha!!! finally someone with the same problem!! got a 30001-r usa ntsc that i installed a magic 2 into, which has the v6 version of the board. first time install it wouldnt boot, black screen. so i pulled the mod, and it started working (probably messed up the bios mod wires). gave it back to the friend and then he reported this dvd movie problem. so i took it back and checked. took my time the second time putting it in and still this problem. looks as tho, my only 2 options are buying the dvd driver with the remote and trying that, or going without dvd movie option.

dvd games work perfectly, as well as regular cd games, and audio cd's. everything but dvd movies.

i checked to see if it gives Dvd Driver XXXX in the triangle menu and it doesnt. i compared it to one that played dvd movies and it showed the driver there.

Hope this dvd driver update works!

Make sure you have no shorts on the chip CXD3098Q (where points b & c connect)
