Hey guys was wondering if anyone has had problems with dvd movie playback on slim ver 12?

It's unmodded machine and I fixed with a new laser. Seems to play fine but after a certain time it skips and then freezes. Originals work fine, but looks like it happens with backups, dvd-r.

Not a big deal, but just wondering. Is it due to crappy ps2 laser or something else overheating because of dvd-r media?

** oh just thought, mebe need to add the comsoft v4 fix? **

I know that this is an older post but wondering if you (or anyone) has any resolution to this? I have an unmodded v12 and dvd playback seems to be sketchy *sometimes* (stuttering frames, sometimes total lockup). My problem seems to be the opposite though. Originals are crapping out, backups work fine. I use sony and memorex burnt @ 2x/4x.

This is a real PITA because the PS2 is my only dvd player and I don't feel like "backing up" all of my dvd movies just so they are watchable on this thing. I'm wondering if this is something a laser adjustment would fix?

I'm planning on chipping it with a duo3 so I would like to fix this first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ooh i forgot to update post, anyway... i did install the comsoft and problem still continues...

although, this may or may not make sense, i tested backups without a label on top and they seem to play fine in the ps2. but the ones with a label, they start skipping, stuttering, etc...

if i remember, originals do work fine. I haven't watched dvd's on the ps2 for a while so I don't remember. I'll have to try it again...

was never a problem on the old style ps2's...... ::sigh::

i wouldn't use your PS2 for DVD playback as the DVD player is pish. Most movies that I burn usually skip(even though they don't on a cheap stand a lone). When you burn you can get Nero to verify the disc. Another alternative is to make an image from the DVD-R using Alcohol 120% you get a performance graph( you want a nice smooth line).
