You know that there are dozens of different dvd players available new for about $30 that can "zoom". And what't that thing with the wcreen you are reading from right now? computer? well, theres software like what I have, that does both zoom and pan-n-scan, and lots of other great things that, that add up as reasons with, let's not forget, how much extra wear that put on, and shortens the useful life of your ps2's poor lazer.
I only watch dvd's on the 'puter, since it has way better picture, and 5-1 surround-sound.
And besides, WHAAHHH, again, I like letterboxed editons, movies are made by directors who think in terms of a wide aspect, and sometimes the real message of the scene, or even overal message of the original film is lost in the pan-n-scan translation. Good directors use the entire field of view, most often to make, or at least suggest, some kind of point they want to make, in a visual way that 4x3 can't replicate.
Can't you just think of it as a tv picture of a movie theater screen? hell, where else are the subtiltes gonna go?
I just can't watch movies without them, and I don't even bother with tv anymore, I've gone a little more than half deaf, and miss or mistake most of the dialog without them, and those black bars are a perfect backdrop for them.
A toxic agent on a dangerous mission so secret, even I don't know what it is, because if I did, I would have to kill myself. I don't even know who's side I am on.
