Here is a short tutorial on how to load BOR on unmodified PS2 consoles which contain an HDD & here is what needs to be done:

First you have to download the legal Bor port from http://ps2bor.psx-scene.com/downloads.htm .

Next, download the PS2 version of Beats Of Rage from http://senileteam.segaforums.com/ .

Next, download Cdmage from http://www.geocities.com/cdmage/frames.html .

    Next, download CDGENPS2 3.0 from http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29744 .

Now, unzip Cdmage & Beats Of Rage to a blank directory on your PC's HDD.

Load up Cdmage, the select the file menu & click on open & from the pulldown menu select m2/2352 track & goto the directory where BOR is installed & select borps2.bin & click on open.

borps2.bin will open up & click on the track1[mode2/2352][BEATSOFRAGE] link & in the right panel, you will see several files. Highlick BOR.PAK & right click on it & select extract files & enter the directory where you want to save the file & click extract. Now delete the borps2.bin & borps2.cue file & you can also delete Cdmage.

    Now extract ps2bor-0.1b.zip & rename bor.elf to HDD_BOR.ELF & rename BOR.PAK to bor.pak.

    Now extract CDGENPS2 3.0 to the same directory as HDD_BOR.ELF & bor.pak .

Load up CDGENPS2 3.0, & drag HDD_BOR.ELF & bor.pak into the window. Next click on the icon which says IMG & a window will load up. In the file name, give it the name of Bor & select UMCDR (*.dat) from the pulldown menu & select save. The file will now save. Now, burn it to cd. Now, to load this in your unmodified PS2, you must have PS2MENU loaded as boot.elf from your mem card using PS2 Indy Exploit. If you don't have the PS2 Indepedence Exploit, you can follow my tutorial which shows you how to get the exploit onto your system & it is located at http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25623 . If you have the exploit then load your PS1 Exploit game & when PS2MENu loads up, goto your HDD partition ( press L1 key) & create a directory for bor, I like to use the directory name of bor. Go into your created Bor directory, this is done by highlighting the directory name & pressing the X Key, & hit the triangle key which will enable copying to the directory. Now, remove, your PS1 CD & insert your burned CD, wait for a little while & then press the R1 key & select cdfs, your cd will load up, highlight each file & select triangle which will copy the file to your directory. After you are done, goto your bor directory & select HDD_BOR.ELF & Beats of Rage will load up & you can play it. Now, put away the CD for safekeeping.

    Update:

I forgot to mention that you must have the most recent version of PS2MENU which is PS2MENU 2.6 which is located at http://ps2dev.org/kb.x?T=1009 . Only PS2MENU 2.6 can read UMCDR cd's, versions of PS2MENU less than 2.6 can't read UMCDR cd's.

    good tutorial dude!
As you are a moderator, can you add ps2bor site to the PS2-Scene.org main menu in the left, where it says PS2-Scene hosted sites...
Some ppl cant find PS2BOR at first look because I think someone forgot to add this hosted site to the hosted sites menu. That way ps2bor would have more support and be more popular to the newbies... And maybe the ps2bor site could be updated with some links and tutorials.. what do you think?

I wish some dev take a look at http://www.gamikaze.org/board/index.php?c=20 because they are updating their OpenBOR project weekly with new features and etc.. The new mods that are coming to OpenBOR doesnt work with PS2BOR (only with DOS, WIN and DC port) so I think someone who wants to help them out could join the crowd

I'm just the moderator of the PS2 Dev/Homebrew forum, I don't have the power to add links to the mainpage, only the admins such as G, et al can add links to the main page.

But I do agree with you that if the link to PS2BOR was on the main page more people would be able to find PS2BOR.

And it would be excellent if OpenBOR would come to PS2, this would add a lot more homebrew to PS2 since BOR has some many mods.

Hello, first let me say good post very detailed. Do you need a fliptop or something to get this disc to run. Below outlines the problem I ran into.

Used the tools to make a UMCDR .dat and .cue file and burned them with Nero. I tried 2 discs one was set at Disc-at-Once/96 and the other was Disc-at-Once. I made my primary BOOT.ELF file PS2Menu. Made a directory for the files (Bor), mounted the directory for copying and waited for a bit and then clicked R1 and selected cdfs: it spun the disc but no files are shown to highlight and copy to the Bor directory. I am working with a v9 SCPH-50001 unmodded system. What am I doing wrong?.

    Thanks! and again good work.

    LD50,

It might be your PS2 or the way you burned your CD. The tutorial works on my PS2 which is a launch model so I believe that it might be the way your burned your cd.

Here is how I do it, once you create your *.dat files, load up Nero Express & when Nero Express loads up, select disc image or saved project then image files (*.nrg, *.iso, *.cue) from the pulldown menu, then goto the directory where your Bor files are & select your cue file then when the next menu loads up select 4x speed in the writing speed section & then click on next & Nero will burn your cd.

This works for my PS2 so it should work for other PS2's. Also make sure that you have the latest PS2MENU version which is PS2MENU 2.6 which can be downloaded from http://ps2dev.org/kb.x?T=1009, this is the only version of PS2MENU which has support for reading UMCDR discs.

Thanks for the detailed how-to! After months of fooling with it, I finally have BOR working!

    Two notes:

    1. The brand of CD-R makes a difference. This is probably common knowledge but it caused me some problems. I tried a Memorex blank first (no read), then an old bulk red blank I had lying around (which worked fine).
    2. The newest LaunchELF reads UMCDR also, and I tested this successfully using it instead of PS2MENU.

    Thanks again!
