Neocd/ps2 0.0.1a –
08-14-2004,05:40 PM
First release !
As this is an alpha release, this emulator is in the very early stages of production and a lot still need to be done. Compatibility rate is low :
some games are playable, but others have gfx glitches, no graphics at all, or just hangs up after a while. (games like Bust a Move are fully playable) And there is no sound yet.
Last point, I highly recommend you to boot the emulator using puklink/inlink or any similar method (I personally recommend ps2exec that I use for the moment and with which neocd is running), and not to burn a cd with this version. Also, the emulator won't run from mc or hdd.
Next version will have a more robust file managing, so that is should be bootable even from you toaster !
In order to respect GNU license, I will make the source available soon. This way anyone could also participate in the project and post possible modification, optimization here.
see you soon !
and thanks again to ps2-scene for generously hosting me

Congratulations on the excellent release!
One quick question, I was going to try out the compatibility of a few games but is there anyway I can run them without burning each one on separate cd?
I'm running the emulator via inLink I guess I could put it on MC aswell.

Thanks rascal
It's not possible to put several games on the same CD ! first because all game files on Original neogeo cd are in the root of the disc, so if you can manage to put them together it will be a big mess.
Then concerning the memory card I don't know.... the version is really a first build untested on mc, hdd, etc... but if you try it, your feedback is welcome.
Anyway, for futur release a proper support for loading from mc, hdd, etc.. is planned.

When i try to run the emu with ps2link 1.23 and inlink 1.37 it says to me that can't find memcard.bin and the file is in the directory romdisk
the same if i boot the emu from mc...the only i see is the neogeocd logo
i have the neocd.bin y the bios directory so i can't find what's the problem...
Sorry for my english but i'm spanish
PS:keep on the good work...neo geo powaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!

hmm, just try with ps2exec instead of inlink.
ps2exec is a dos tool, run it from the command line, as maybe the path is not preserved with inlink (neocd looks for host0:.\romdisk\xxxxx.xxx)
I personnaly use ps2exec, just checked, and yes it doesn't work with inlink !!!!
bugs bugs bugs... anyway all the loading stuff need to be rewrote for something more robust !!!!

Yeah with ps2exec the emu works!!!!!!!!but i've a problem when i change the disc and i put "windjammers" it says to me that the game isn't a neogeocd game
...i play this game on some others neogeocd emus for pc.What's the problem? Can be that the game isn't properly burned or can be a compatibility issue?
Saludos y Gracias

Yes, it seems to have some problem with some disc (don't know why). So please be sure to wait a few seconds before pressing X once you inserted the disc (at least until you hear it spinning ) and then retry
try also pushing X several times... (as it takes a few seconds before being able to read it)
strangely others are working directly... I'm working on this issue anyway....
One question : do you have a modchip ?

A new version (0.02a) should be available for today or tomorrow (just need free time to finalize & release it), with some kind of autodetection for the boot (so cd, hdd, mc should then work correctly).
Of course It won't resolve your problem as you managed to run it using ps2exec, but yes If think that I will also release some kind of dev build which will read the cd from host instead of directly from the cdrom (at least from where the emu is located), waiting to fix the cd loading issue (except if I found the problem for this release).
Of course I guess that these isos are image (backup copy) of your original cd, as no discussion on non original games will be tolerated here !
thank you very much for your feedback
Furthermore a compatibility list would be really helpful !

I can confirm this working with InLink aswell. I'm using 1.37 version together with PS2Link v1.24b (If I remember the version correctly, I can check this later)
CORRECTION: The emulator loads just fine with InLink but game loading causes a soft reset. Use ps2exec instead...
