you don't necessarily have to have ribbon cables, you can solder individual wires onto the spots. I Think a section of dead IDE cable would do well, although the wires may to be spaced apart for it. Also you probably don't need the PS2's PSU at all. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, because I'd like to know, but from playing with a multimeter, the PSU seems to only supply a 12v and a ground. Any further stepdowns in voltage I assume are done on the motherboard. If this is true, you should be able to use a modified ATX or AT power supply ((depending on your xbox version)) to work for your xbox, and one of the 12v leads on the molex connectors of the power supply can be used for the PS2. It'd be pretty simple to just solder on the wires, they're large solder points. Also whenever you get the gamecube, you can just mount the AC-DC converter inside the case and extend your AC input. Anyway...those are my thoughts, but I'm probably wrong, because I blew up my dreamcast the other day But good luck!
did you see helltick's ps2+xbox in pc case?
the PSU seems to only supply a 12v and a ground
yes i do beleive thats true i mesured mine and it came out somewhat a little over 12v. i wonder why they would put a power suply that big in their if they would only need it to suply 12v. i have a v2 and i mesured the furthest to the left pin and the furthest to the right.
thanx. yeah I guess I'll do that too since I'm already takin out my box's PSU (buying an adapter for ATX) and that one the ps2 has takes up a lot of space..... god this is gonna take me forever.... should've got a bigger case
The two simple ribbons are pretty easy to extend using 30awg wrapping wire. It's the laser head to mobo thats the problem...At only 2 inches It doesnt allow for much separation between mobo and dvddrive itself. Even if you did manage to solder the 28 connections each side (56 total) Will it work?
Prolly not...I beleive it's 2 inches for a reason. I think if you did extend, to say 5-6 inches...your laser would pop at the first attempt of reading if not shortley after. I mean think...The ps2 lasers allready suck to begin with, now just imagine how much the ps2 laser would suck if you extended/modified the laser heads ribbon cable.
Design your case around the ps2 mobo/dvd-drive attached as normal.
