It could have been due to overheating... I would think it more than likely its the PSU that has blown rather than the mobo...
I would personally teast another PSU from those other stations u have... Would obviously rule out the PSU if none of them work...

Have you done much soldering in the past?

yeah ive installed quite a few chips before thats why i was suprised this didnt work as its only 4 wires but i did have trouble with the solder as i had to keep the iron on for awhile to get the origanal solder to melt. ill try another power supply board in it tonight without soldering the cathodes on and see if it works but if it does how do i stop it happening again when i put the cathodes back on?

To check fuses with the multimeter, set it to continuity (may look like a sideways triangle with a line through it), then use the two probes to touch each side of a fuse. If the fuse is good, it will register at 0, or maybe -0. If you get no reading (doesn't change) then it's blown. Look on the board for marking that say PS and then a number, and they point to black squares and such with numbers printed on them. Those are your fuses. Somewhere around here I've seen fuse diagrams for different versions, as I needed them at one time.

Ok I got myself a mutlitmeter a few days back because its a tool I didnt have and was sure Id need it especially when modding computers and now ps2. So when I got it home I tried testing it out. I cant figure it out tho. Im pretty sure I need to turn the know to the 20 V- (DC) side. I then connected both black and red to areas on ps2 controller and mc that friends have told me should work but im not getting any readings. What am I doing wrong. Shouldnt I get something from the memory card or at least from the controller. Theres a few places to try isnt there? Its just a regular sony ps2 controller with rumble packs. I need some help learning how to use this.

    that should work fine

if the psu working in another console, try it on the bottom of the psu while its on (still 20v dc on the points shown earlier) the points are only 12v so u should be fine

Red goes on positive black on negative, (your multimeater should just put - infront if its the wrong way) if it still doesnt work

take a pic of it and we can see if theres anything obviosly wrong
