Replacing laser –
Ok everyone, here is what i've unfortunately had to do(skip to the blocked part to skip the rising conflict and get right to the problem at hand.):
A couple months ago my PSTwo predictably had fallen victim to the dead laser syndrome. I called sony seeing as in my warranty was still in effect and they said i could send it in and they would fix it for free. So i printed all the paperwork and stuff, had everything in a fedex box, but never got around to sending it to them. So just last week i went on www.mrmodchips.com and ordered a new laser with the full optical block. I received the laser block yesterday and decided to go ahead and get to work.
So i opened up my PSTwo and unscrewed the laser block, removed two ribbons(the one attached to the disc spinner, and the small one attached to laser motor). I then got to work on trying to get the ribbon attached to the old laser unit out and found that it was very difficult. I winded up breaking one of the little plastic sides off of the ribbon holder; However, i did get the ribbon out.
I replaced the ribbon in the new laser unit, closed the holder, and screwed the new optical block into the open PSTwo. Then i closed the PSTwo and hooked it up to my television. The exact opposite of what i was hoping to happen, of course, happened. It still didn't work, but now the laser wasn't working at all, and wouldn't read any disks.
I gave it a days break and then I, once again, opened up the PSTwo. I removed the new optical block again, along with the two ribbons attached to it. It turns out i had to remove the solder on the static protection point.
Here's where the problem begins:
Can anyone give me some ideas on how to solve this so i can return this PSTwo to a useful condition?
I once again had a difficult time removing the ribbon from the laser unit.
I winded up breaking, not one, but both of the plastic sides of the ribbon holder.
Now i can't think of a way to hold the laser ribbon in place while the laser moves back and forth.
Anyone? Please, any help at all will be appreciated.
