thermochromic materials.... some are used to make inks, paints.... blah blah blah....

picture a water cooled PC or a PS2 that the coolent chages color frome dark purple to light blue when passed through the CPU heatsink... then is cooled back to dark purple from the radiator.....

several color and temperature ranges are available.... I'm looking for a company that sells this stuff to give me some info on if this idea would work using some on the ink that they sell.

there are plenty of nail polishes that change color with heat. You'd have to thin them with some thing (nail polish remover i guess). I don't know how effective the mixture would be at heat transfer for liquid cooling??? Also the corrosive effects???
    Code:
     ______ _______ ______
    | __ \ __|__ | V9 w/ Fliptop
    | __/__ | __| 80 GB HD
    |___| |_______|______| Brown MC exploit

even with the deluted nail polish... passing over the heatsink would bake the stuff into it... so after a while it would build up in the tubes and heatsinks.. but the ink could be deluted and the water would keep it thin enough and transfer the heat.

maybe an alcohol based thinner for the nail polish might work.

There is 1 potential problem - the water in a watercooling system stays at a nearly constant temperature. It varies only about 1 or 2 degrees celsius. If you find a material which changes noticeably at such a small difference, it's nothing of course.
Just something that crossed my mind

really.... crap... never thought about that.... most of these need a 20 degree change...

that would take quite a large radiator to handle that much change.

And quite a slow flow to get the PS2 to heat the water enough, and it would then mean a 20 degree increase in the PS2 temps.
