Check it out this is the NEW PS2LOGO mod using 18 SMD LEDS on custom circuit board. Soon I will have EL Backlights instead of L.E.D's. I already designed a super small inverter to drive the EL light should have pictures by the end of next week. The cutout was made using a dremal tool and custom made CNC guide to cutout the letters PS2.

I know that www.mouser.com sells EL Driver ICs... not sure if they are a completed circuit though...

we also discussed such a project in this thread a while back... has pics of someone else's ps2....http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/show...1&highlight=el

Yeah using the HV830 Inverter did test with the HV826 but that IC will not produce enuff AC to drive the EL strip bright enuff. Enclosed is the PC board layout I did in Visio. Printed on a transpanacy and used positive etch system. I may have a kit with the circuit board if peeps are interested. The hard part was making the jig for the cutout. I had to break out the metal lathe and mill to do the job. Then I had to make my Dremal into a plunge router again the lathe came in handy if anyone is interested I can post the pics of jig and custom made dremal adaptor.

The location was picked beacuse of the space limits in the new slimline for the LED Circuit board. The EL driver is much smaller and the way the circuit was designed will fit most anywhere in the new slimline PS2. Plus using the EL light the cut out location is not constranied by the thickness of the light beacuse its paper thin.

I don't know anything about the ICs, but is the oscillation frequency adjustable?

EL's brightness is controled by either voltage or frequency... so if the IC has an adjustable frew that would help.....

Yes it uses 2 resistors to set the freq.

Ahh, I forgot this was on the slim ps2, have you did it on the regular ps2? If you had a kit for that i may be interested. But, it should work with either shouldnt it? If its just the board?

Inverters are cheap I found a source that uses small button type inverters that operate from 1.5v to 3.5v I ordered 5 to see if they will work in the new slimline PS2 and they are cheap!! about 3 dollars. Cheap and small inverters
