Eight heads says his works at a longer length...I don't no why.
I tried several different brands of hdd's with and without mobile rack and my findings were 6" or less.
Or hdloader wants to reformat drive or at game launch boots to a black screen.
maybe it depends on your NA model? or possibly the 40 wire to 80 wire assembly he has going on (all data lines grounded)?
I do know if you keep it 6" or less it will work and has been confirmed by others.

    Goodluck!

After re-reading this thread at a more presentable hour , I must correct my logic for using the 40 pin IDC. "IDCs don't come in 80 pin" - duh! Sorry for the confusion.

BTW, how about using a WD Raptor with parallel adapter for SATA?

I was searching around on the net and I found this. The guy making the external drive kit will probably be giving us a pretty good deal here. Anyways, Stonewall Cable is the only place on the internet that I could find making custom cables. They sell Male to Female IDE extension cables that can be any length up to 48". The only problem is the price. You can order one that is 6"

    http://www.stonewallcable.com/xq/asp...qx/product.htm
    $25.98 + $0.12 per inch.

On the cheap side, why couldn't you put 40 header pins into the network adapter and just use a 6" cable? Probably sounds dumb, but you could rip some out of an old parallel/serial cable or buy some cheap chips at Radioshack and gut the pins. A bridged connection only needs to be made to transfer the signal.
