need to know if this is possible
need to know if this is possible –
i have never moded a console in my life but have built several pc`s from ground up. in my junk cupboard i have a spare pc case and a 20 speed dvd drive internal . at first i thought hey wonder if there is a way to wire up this dvd drive to the ps2 speed the thing up a bit and not have to worry about laser damage then i thought why not go the whole hog and put the ps2 into a pc case. i`m yet to open the console up and have a look at the wires etc inside but considering the network adapter has the standard power adapter and ide for a pc hard drive i assume its much the same inside the console (proberly different connectors but there has to be a site somewhere to sell the converters) before i open up my ps2 and void its warentie i`d like to know what you guys think to this idea and if u know of it done before then a web address would be handy also (and i will be looking around this site for these too) i need pics of the inside of the ps2 (the longer i can delay opening it and the more i know before i do the better)
thank you in advance
From what I understand you cant take a pc dvd drive and use it for the ps2. Maybe this has changed tho.
from what i had in mind was ;
if you take apart a network adapter u have a strange conector going into the standard ide cable and one into the power side, we know that the dvds and cds are the same format as pc dvds and cds as they can be read by pc dvd drives that to me sugests that the dvd component of the ps2 is similier to the ide conterpart and may just have different conections. with luck these will be the same as the networrk adapter uses and will be a simple job to swap for a spare network adapter ide and power plugs then plugged straight into a pc ide dvd drive ........the problem is what firm ware the ps2 drive may use or some of the ps2 "brains" may be attached to the drive making this process impossible (hence why i aint just pulled apart the ps2 to have a look at it, till i know more at least)
As far as i know this hasn't ever been tested -- or at least made working.. Hook up your ps2 with a hdd instead for lowering the loading times!
