I'm trying to make the external HDD mod right now but have not been able to find any stores in my area that have male to female IDE cables, gender changer, or just the male header. I've called up about 15 places(REPC, PC recycle, PC surplus, Computer Sonic, ComputerStop and so on..) so far and nothing, the closest thing I've found so far is a male to male IDE but with 68 pins. I saw some on online sites but I can't order off online sites. Does anyone know of a place I can get it in the seattle area?

I've never seen them anywhere EXCEPT on line. I called umpteen local places in WI.
nobody does it / carrys anymore and those who used to make them said it never worked with the crimp connectors-
I ordered 5 of them w/ different ide cable lengths & I never got it to work..

Also the gender changer looses to much of the signal too ,
like too long of a cable-
but hey you might get it to work - I just bit the bullit and unscrew the NA and plug it into a hd rack in the pc...

You could get the Male IDE from a HDD rack for the PC I believe. At least that's what I plan to do... Just cut off the Male from inside the HDD rack and reconnect to a female IDE cable. Should work, have yet to try (When I get around to more cash....) Should be getting my HDD rack tomorrow or Saturday, can't wait to do this! Should be a lot easier to transfer games.. I've tried a couple computer places and no luck as well... this seems to be the only thing I can think of.... any thoughts?

uhh you can use a gender changer......http://www.cablesonline.com/44pinmalidc2.html

it is for a laptop but it is 44 pins, you can use it for a IDE cable because it basically does the same thing.

Hmm couldn't find one in a few of the stores I went to. The 44 pin is alright with a IDE cable? I could use the spare IDE cable that came with my HDD I believe.... Guess I'll go look around some more...

Still can't find a 6" round IDE cable... looking online now....

Use paperclips Just use a normal IDE cable and cut paperclips and insert into the holes. Make sure it's long enough to make good connection on both female connectors. Then make sure you tape the two connectors together with good tape.

Anyhow you could mod a hddrack assembly..but youd have to cut the molex off as they dont line up.

u dont havew to cut it off, u can unscrew the NA, and then unscrew the molex and simply move it over . i did it and it works for my HD

For what I'm talking about...even if you moved molex right beside ide on NA..It still wouldnt fit..hdd racks have a different layout than actual hdds.
