any ideas on how to do this...

I was thinking of just using a switch that turns the first and second controllers into 1A and 1B... then have 1C and 1D built into the case as well... when the switch is off 1 and 2 would resume their positions....

the switch could be a custom made 9PDT setup (exspensive) or using a electronic switching system with a momentary push button.... maybe $5 bucks for the switching system and the mounted push button....

but such a system would reset each time you turn off the system.... unless it is setup with a toggling switch.... and then could be forced on by the switch when powered up... yeah... that would be the ticket.

Or a much easier way would be to snip of the connector of the multitap (end that goes into controller port) and solder the wires to the appropriates pins for controller port one on the inside of the console.

But just hardwiring the multitap ito the system will override the 1 port... so some games wont' see it...

i got this madcats multitap that is super small, and looks like an extention of the PS2, you should check it out, its not quite as "cool" as moding it yourself, but it gets the job done.

If you open up a multitap for this I would realy apreciate a wiering scematic for it. I would like to do this project but would rather not buy a multitap for it.

I think you have to have a special multiplexer chip for the data stream... I has an extra board between the two controller boards... but looks easy enough to take apart for the use I have in mind.... I exspect to use a IC based switch system to reassign the controls data lines and power....

I'm planning on using a 4066 IC.... quad switching IC... If i can find a better on then that would be great..... using a standard switch to give the signal to the IC a on or off state... so the sets of chips will reroute the signal through the Mutitap and then back to the first 2 controller ports.

If I can find a better chip... with say 16 switches built in then this will work much better... also need to find just how long the ribbon cable for the ports can be.

OK... I think that a roller switch built into the 3 controller port could be used to activate the Multi-Tap electronic switch....

which btw has to be a double setup... each chip can handle 4 spst setup and I have 2 throw directions and 16 wires to throw.... so this will take 4 chips for each throw direction... so a total of 8 chips are needed for this to work.... I think that is right.... haven't looked at the controller ports yet.... did this math using just the wiring of the Multi-Tap.

but with this port 3 switch setup... I won't need to press the momentary button on the PS2 to turn the Multi-Tap back on if I reset the system. Just as long as a controller is plugged into port 3 the ICs turn on automagically.

Dude.. I was thinking about this IDEA from the 1st post this weekend.. but as I dont understand nothing about eletronics I will just sit and wait to see your mod.. When you complete it why not share your steps (like a tutorial).
