I wanted to ask if anyone had information on the dimensions of aftermarket fatline flip top cases. I'd like to take a crack at making my own since I lack money to buy one.

I'm tiring quickly of the slidecard method, as i've repeatedly caused the pin to misalign, and it's quite a bother to need to keep fixing it.

I have plenty of tools, and a drill with a grinding bit, so I am confident I have all the required tooling.

Any help, or pointers from the more seasoned than I would be appreciated.

Given that problem, are you sure you want to keep using swap methods at all ? Have you considered using the FMCB+ESR method instead, to allow swap-free boot of burned backup discs ?

That method does have one drawback, in that backup ISOs need to be patched before burning, so your existing backup discs without such patches will not boot through ESR. But apart from that this method is far superior to swapping, as there is no abnormal handling of either discs or drive.

Even better for you laser would be a network adapter, HDD and patched HDL. No cutting, drilling, or swapping needed.

If you still want to do this mod just for fun, there should be some posts somewhere around here about it. It's been such a long time since I have seen that kind of thread that I'd have to use the search feature also.

That is true, but he mentioned "lacking money".
But still,... Good you pointed him to it.

Oh I forgot to include that i was recently trying to get FMCB to work but i keep screwing up the swap. As many times as i've got a swap to work I've also failed twice that amount.

I have the HDD adaptor and an 80GB HDD that supposedly works. I even have the modified game disc to use to swap. And I've setup a USB stick with the installation files. However I keep failing in that the game freezes.

What (original) disc did you use for your swap?

Btw.: Did you tried to start a uLE-Disc (be it CD, or DVD)?

I used Star Wars: Battlefront 2 as the original, trying to boot a burned copy with a NTGUI.ELF that was replaced with a renamed uLE. The iso was well in excess of 4GB so I naturally could only use a DVD. I'm using Gigaware DVD+Rs.

Put simply, I was following a guide on SKSapps using an original disc and a modified iso burned to disc to launch uLE. Link is here. The tut I was following is under Installation at the very bottom.

Given the failures you describe it is obvious that you do need FMCB installed by one of the installer volunteers. Surely you can scrape together enough money just for postage...!?!

With FMCB you'll get a ready-to-boot HDL on MC, together with uLE, SMS, ESR and the ability to install additional homebrew programs of your own choice as well.

    Best regards: dlanor

dlanor, thanks for the idea. It didn't even cross my mind until now. I've begun looking into it and it seems that it is a very agreeable solution.

In another stream of thought it would be pretty neat to see a homemade flip mod, at least imo. But this solves my problem far better.

I actually made a homemade fliptop case. Back before FMCB, I also grew tired of the slide tool method for cogswap and swap magic. I had an old version 4 that went dead long ago so with the tutorial I found on exploitstation, I decided to try to make my own fliptop for my version 10. There were extra tabs or plastic pieces underneath the top cover that I had to get rid of to make fit the v10, but I got it to work. Very crude looking, not pretty at all but it got the job done and I was able to swap without the slide tool. Then after FMCB came out, I put my original top back on and used ESR...that is until my laser got fried due to poor media and me not employing the romeo mod beforehand.
