So, after a trillion times of opening/closing my PS2 case, it looks like the Power/Status LED died. Well, not completely--It still turns green when I turn it on, but when it's off, it's just a very, very faint orange-ish color. You can barely tell it's in standby.

Being a perfectionist, I'd like to replace/do whatever I have to do to get it back to normal. Could anyone tell me what kind of LED I need to buy to replace the stock one? Installation ought to be pretty self-explanatory after that, I would imagine.

    Thanks in advance~

Gotcha. Maybe I can find just the power/eject button+ribbon cable from a PS2 parts site. Until then, I can live with an orange standby light . . .

check that for a quick and dirty guide on changing the led's..

Myself , Loy and Duey2k have all completed this mod successfully
    on a v4 v9 and v12
SCPH-5003 V9 Matrix InfinIty,Romeo Mod + summOne fix ( Added 560ohm resistor on tracking coil, Focus Coil untouched at the minute ) My Advice don't use the resistor fix with v9-10
SCPH-102 mini playstation unmodded at the moment ( blue led power light replacement )
    MS XBOX 1.5 Xenium V1

had to remove the resistor as only dvd films would play an they struggled. orginal ps2 both cd an dvd would not load and backup ps2 games would not boot, removed the resistor an all is beautifal again.

It could be, but as I don't have another ribbon there is no way for me to check. The ribbon is a little bent up from the amount of times I've had to unplug/plug it back in, but it's securely plugged in and it still turns the PS2 on/off just fine.

Well, I made a strange discovery about my LED today.

The LED infact works perfectly. Whenever I open the lid on my V12 to insert a game, the Standby light is red and the Power light is bright green.

However, when I close the lid, the standby light turns orange and the power light is light green. Basically, it isn't just a problem in standby--the LED just fades whenever I close the disc tray. I discovered this after opening my V12's disc tray for the first time in several days!

I tried removing/loosening the screws on the HD Connect IDE clips to see if that was shorting something, but there was no problem there. My only guess still is that it's a malfunction of the ribbon cable, but I have no idea now!

Anyway, I'm in no hurry to fix it anymore, it's just weird. I guess if I ever come across a V12 power/eject ribbon I'll just try that.

well their gonna be about the size of a SMD capacitor or such, and its tough to ever solder those, cos ure so likely to burn the stupid things out

surface mount components are expensive and very tiny. Best to stay away from it unless you REALLY need that standby light.
