I read about someone wiring an LED to the surface mount one on the MB. Where is the surface mount one on the motherboard for HD activity? And has anyone found/made one for LAN activity?

I'm not really a genious or anything...and this IS my first post. But wouldn't be easier and safer to solder an LED (with the proper resitor) directly on the HD for HD activity. Would be less meesy to. Woudn't have to run wires everywhere. I did it on a PC and a xbox before. Run the positive leg of the LED on the 5v pin uder the HD, and the ground to the 39th pin of the IDE jack.

HDDs are a very delicate thing man. Go with the surface mount extension for safety of the drive.

That seems easier, and if it had an internal HD that's what I would do (just like I do on the Xbox) but since I might want to remove the HD later on, It wouldnt be possible because the wire would be soldered to it. Thats the only reason I went with the mobo LED. But its up to you!
