I wanted to know if there is anyway i could mod the ps2 sony controller where the directional pad would be on the back, where your fingers would be. Reason for this is because it would be alot easier to scope in when im sniping is socom 2 then taking my thumb off my joystick and pressing the up button(I quick snipe). I have a soldering iron and i can buy any other necessary equipment/materials for this, if its possible.

Nothing is inpossible! look at the pic.
the pic might be old but anyway...

I think you can cut it of,revers it and wired it.
Then just make holes on the back for the pad.
Still it will be hard to get it to work realy good.
But who knows, mabye you pull it of.

If you do it, please post pics! Strange but cool mod

    ---------
If you only going to press the up button i sugest to solder just a button paralell to the up button and make it come out on the back.

yea, i've turned a PSX controller into a PS/2 keyboard, with each button assigned as a key i had set. you need to scratch off the protective film before solder will attach to the circuit.

you'll find that your biggest problem is space, since the controllers are designed in CAD and have 0 space left.

Yea, i basically only need the up/down buttons of the directional pad on the the back of the controller. I know its a strange mod, but when your really into sniping and such, it will come in handy. Plus i think it might be a good project for my first mod. If anyone has any suggestions of easy(for beginners) ps2 mods, suggest away. I'm going to completely modify and customize my old fat ps2.

go for it! i think there will be some space fore the button, if it's to tight you can glue a surfacemonted button(s)on the back of the controller. not the most beautiful solution... but it works. i did that when i wanted a resetbutton on my controller. check pic.

I think that would be a fairly simple mod. Just solder them to up and down on the front of the board any were on the up and down trace. If you are going to use an offical sony ps2 controller it will be verry dificult. In my official ps2 controllers ther is no board the circuit is printed on a plastic film of some sort, like whats inside a ddr pad. Maybe the official controllers arn't made that way anymore but the one that came with my v3 ps2 was that way.

here you go. i think its a pic of the ps1 dualshock. but its the same thing...

Just as someone sed before. you might need to scrape of the first layer on the pads to make a good soldering.
