I just took apart my mom's alarm clock that just broke to see what make's it tick hehe :P and i guted it for part's to i took the powersuply out and it made me think about somthing i was thinking of doing a while ago if i put that powersuply in my ps2 and have it on it's own plug which it has could i run led's right off of it (with resistor's of course) but would that work or would i need somthing else to make it work? I dont know what the voltage on it is (dont have a multimeter) i looked it up and alarm clock's run off of 7.5-12V so asumeing it is let's say 12V just incase what would work?

I just figured out what resistor i'd need it's 470 but the led calculator dosent say what 470 cuz there's a 470 and a 470k this is what i got

    Supply voltage 12V
    Diode forward voltage 3.3V
    Diode rated current 20 ma

    Calculated resistance value 435 ohm
    Next standard 5% resistor * 470 ohm
Resistor color markings yellow violet brown
Power dissipated in LED** 61 mW
Power dissipated in resistor** 161 mW

    any idea's?

this is the site i used http://linear1.org/ckts/led.php

470 is 470 , 470k is 470000 (K = x 1000) it would work , but instead of doing that , just use the 2 solder points on the bottom of your psu already in your ps2. (its 12v as well)
dont do teh alarm thing, cuz ud also need a switch on the wire to turn them on and off and that seems gay lol jk.

But draining to much power from your PS2 can cause errors.... so if you are not using a crapload of LEDs then you should be fine.... If you plan on making your PS2 look like a landing strip a second power supply is not a bad idea... I was thinking of using a second PS2 PSU but this idea has some good merit... the PSU would be smaller..... and produce less heat....

but like "E" says you would need a way to turn them off... unless you don't want to turn them off.... or you can use the main power switch... just turn off the whole system....

lol you guy's just said the two thing im gonna do there's gonna be more then a few led's in there and i plan on useing a switch anywy two actuly and the switches have a led in them as well. The powersuplly it self is realy small so it's not like there would be a big room issue actuly i'll measure it right now .....it's biggest side is 30mm infact it'll fit nice and snug in the hdd bay.
