Tray Switch
Hi!
Just wondering if anybody has tried this on a v4 and what was involved with it. It actually sounds somewhat easy to do. Here is how I picture it...
Do the mod. Run cogswap or cdloader. At time of swap, instead of using the knife trick, hit the tray switch. The tray will pop open, flip discs, and you're done. Is that really how it works?
There are some very good instructions on http://duke.napalm-x.com/. I was going to follow them, but he says they're for the PAL version and not the NTSC version. Is it the same? Can somebody provide a link with instructions for a NTSC / v4 version?
Thanks!

it's just a homemade no solder mod, you can buy one for cheap and it just plugs right in, you don't have to worry about running a power wire and all that

Hi!
OK, I'm going to give it a shot with the instructions. Although, I think they said to cut the red/black wire and run it to the switch. Then the other set that I found said something about cutting the wires to the motor... The first set (duke.<something) look more "professional" so I'm going to go with those.
I already have my ps2 apart and found the wires, now running to radio shack for a switch.. I'll let you know what happens!!!
Thanks

Woops.... Now I've done it...
Well, the switch worked....for about 3 or 4 times. Now my tray won't open or close. :-((((
I powered it by a 4.5 volt transformer. It seemed as if the tray open and closed a little faster, but didn't think anything of it. Now it won't open at all. Does anybody have any ideas of what to look for?
Thanks!

It will open faster depending on voltage but it shouldn't be a problem (4.5v is probably fine).
Dunno what the problem is.

What kind of switches have you used on it? I purchased a 3 way switch that works, but it sort of a pain. One way opens it, the middle turns the juice off, and the other switch closes the tray. Too bad a single switch button thing doesn't work for it.
Also, is there anything bad that could happen if you just leave the switch to the 'open' or 'closed' position for too long? Does it damage anything?

seems like it would damage the motor, i wouldn't suggest it

any luck with the switch?

I use 3 volts with my tray switch, but I wired it directly to the tray motor, not how you did yours. I used a DPDT switch.

does teh motor make any sound? if not then the motor is probably blown.
check to see if teh motor is getting any juice...
