I have a PStwo and the swapdisk 3.3. It was working fine with my legal backups but now when I try to use it, none of my backups work anymore. They are not scratched at all as I barely use them. I noticed that the laser goes to the inside of the disc then goes way to the outside, right outside of the actual disc (as far as it will go). So basically it is not checking any data on the backup. Then it says the disk is not a PS2 disk, when in fact it has worked fine before. Oh, the PStwo is not modded in any way. No chip, also no fixes done to it as too much crap is going on to really know who is telling the truth. What is going on here, has the burned media hurt my laser? I use DVD+R from sony, and it has worked perfect, even when I burn at 8x.

Dunno, I have a PSTwo, use SwapMagic 3.3, have a modded fliptop, and been operating like this for months.

Could be your media. I know you said it worked before, but maybe the media was so bad that it DID hurt your laser? Who knows?

I have around 50 backup games or so now and have been using Taiyo Yuden DVD+R's as well as Ritek GIDATA G04 DVD-R's. Haven't had any issue like that.

To refresh, you are swapping correctly right? SwapMagic 3.3 disc in drive, powering on PSTwo, at prompt, replacing SwapMagic 3.3 disc with a method that does not use the eject button (Magic switch, Fliptop, etc,.), then pressing X, right?

That should be all there is to it.

For kicks, get a few disks of high quality media, and burn a game at a slower speed. See what happens.

Well, today it started working again. Very Odd. I have no clue as to why the laser would go to the outside and check the disc there. And yes, I have been using the discs right, its damn easy.
