Swap Mod question: Can you use a knife?
Swap Mod question: Can you use a knife? –

Hey.
I just placed my order for a swap-mod disk set off custom PS2, but I did not order it with the opening thing (becuase for some odd reason it was almost 10 dollars more
), so I was wondering, would I just be able to use a butter knife to open up the tray manually?
Also, I heard you have to install an exploit to get most stuff to work, can someone link me to what thats all about or tell me?
Thanks.

Well, if you havent searched, Im bored and feel like typing it out. Yay for me.
Anyways, the same prep is required as is with the commercial slide card. You need to take the front black cover off your CD tray...there are two little plastic tabs on each side that you should CAREFULLY be able to move A LITTLE BIT to take the front part off...carefully or it snaps, which doesnt really matter it just means its a pain to put it back on later if you have to. Youll know you did it right if when the tray is closed you can see above and below it a little bit into the console.
Under the tray if you look (slightly to the right) theres a little white peg. Dont use something metal...you can try a plastic knife, or you can make your own card. Ive made a couple and for me what works the best is one made from the cover of a plastic DVD case...I used the ones that the AOL cds come in, you know you have 8 billion of those around somewhere. If you just make it pretty much exactly like the one at the story it pretty much will work. Just do trial and error until you have a card that can slide the peg all the way to the right (towards the buttons) until the tray pops open.
Closing the tray isnt as easy as pushing it in...the little peg stays all the way to the right, and it needs to be pulled back to the middle. Thats why the comercial one is shaped how it is...just keep working on your card till you give it a notch that can hook onto the peg when its all the way to the side and slide it towards the middle till it stops. There ya go, a card...
itll be kinda like this:

yeah... the DVD case works great.... shame I couldn't find an exacto knife to cut it (used scissors... not to straight)....
I get free DVD cases from BlockBuster... they give them out.... also you might get one from AOL mailers.... but I believe they're using MDF boxes (I liked the metal tins that were going about there for a while.. have my Memory sticks and floppy adapter in one)...
PS. - nice ASCII diagram.....
