Any others who have bought Swap Magic have issues with there DVD disc not working. But there CD disc works fine? On Swap Magic site its in the FAQ section so i would think it comes up enough to warrant a entry? I bought Swap Magic and the day it came in mail along with my flip top for my slim. I havent been able to get the DVD disc to boot up. On the 2-3 times that it has got to the Playstation logo its grey and messed up. But the Swap Magic DVD splash never comes up. It just goes black and goes to browser with MC and disc is highlighted and it says"Theres no data on disc" Not sure if those are the exact words..Up in the right corner it says Playstation 2 disc. If i press X it says "reading disc" screen goes black for a second or 2 then comes back to browser saying "Theres no data on disc" again dont remember if those are the exact words. The cd disc works fine so the flip top is installed right. My PS2 will read all my DVD games just fine. Even the ones that are a bit worn and scratched. So Im pretty confident the laser is fine and its not a console problem but a bad disc problem. Maybe cheap ass DVD's?? I dont know wat quality Swap Magic uses to burn there disc with..As the disc wont even read on my pc dvd burner. i tried to find ot with Imgburn.

Well.On friday when i got it in mail and i found out that evening the DVD wouldnt work I e-mailed them. But since it was the weekend they didnt get back to me til monday. I told them the details about what it was doing and all and said Im pretty sure its a bad disc..But havent heard from them yet. Ill give it another day or so and e-mail them again. But all i should have had to say was it wasnt loadin up and they should have taken care of it. Either send me another one or something. I play guitar and buy stuff off of a website called Guitar Fetish. and they have great customer support. If you e-mail them with a problem they handle it very quickly. I bought a new tremolo for a strat and when it showed up it was the wrong item. I e-mailed them and they replied by sending me the correct order the next day. They just took care of it because they have great customer support. With this company it feels like they want to make me prove that theres something wrong with the disc and not take it on a customers word.

I dont know wat quality Swap Magic uses to burn there disc with..As the disc wont even read on my pc dvd burner. i tried to find ot with Imgburn.
Both my Swapmagic 3.6 (CD and DVD versions) discs are unreadable on my PCs's drives. Seems to be because of the "special" kind of discs they actually are (Strange spiral patterns on the shinny side).

Any others who have bought Swap Magic have issues with there DVD disc not working. But there CD disc works fine?
Mine works fine... but it's quite the contary if you want to talk about defects.

My CD version *does* screw up at times (The PS2 sometimes fails to read the "SCE" signature on it and thinks that it's a burned disc, hence a red screen). However, resetting the PS2 (A few times at most) to get the PS2 to re-read the disc usually solves any problems.

My DVD version seemed to be a little thin in the plastic near the center hub... and my slimline's rotor sometimes doesn't get a good grip on the DVD (When it isn't seated properly), and the DVD gets scratched as it gets rotated... (My bad for not ensuring that it was properly seated before starting my PS2!!)

Otherwise, my Swapmagic discs are still working, despite being quite worn out over the past 3 years of usage (And irresponsible handling).

On the 2-3 times that it has got to the Playstation logo its grey and messed up. But the Swap Magic DVD splash never comes up. It just goes black and goes to browser with MC and disc is highlighted and it says"Theres no data on disc" Not sure if those are the exact words..
Sounds like your PS2 is struggling to read the DVD version... try running it with your modchip switched off (If you have one installed)?

If that fails, I can only suspect a faulty disc. What version of Swapmagic did you order?

The region it's meant for must fit your console's region.

With this company it feels like they want to make me prove that theres something wrong with the disc and not take it on a customers word.
Which company did you buy it from? I bought my set from linker4u.com in 2007, and they responded very quickly to my requests.

if the seller doesn't take action then you have to. e-mail the seller again and you tell him that he sold you a "factory defective item" and that you will be sending it (swap magic cd & dvd) back for an exchange or refund. it is standard to pay for mailing fees on your end when sending a defective item back. you ask for him for mailing instructions and you send those discs back.

you've gotta be blunt and assertive when you demand for good customer service. you have to use formal language when writing an email of this sort in order for you to be taken more seriously.

Swap Magic *is* readable by PC drives but they must a be a strong one. ;] There are couple of broken sectors at lead in and on dummy files.

SM DVD will not boot on pure ps2 drive. Try a few times, try it when console is rotate on 180.

In this times flip to covers, swap methotds etc. are too annoying. Install FMCB with ESR.

How strong can a PC's drive get?

Really? I didn't know that. Did you try reading the leadin yourself?

I thought that it was because the disc was not designed to be read by a PC's drive (Because the "spiral" patterns are confusing the drive, but a PS2's drive didn't mind).

My works fine on both my SCPH-39006 and SCPH-77006, but some people say that this occurs for their PS2s (Don't know how true).

well..I think I gave them more than enough time to respond to my last e-mail.At first i didnt want to say the company name because I didnt want to bad mouth them but they havent bothered answering my lat e-mail where i told them he exact problem. The fact that you can google "swap magic cant read dvd disk" and come up with posts about it tells me its not a rare problem. And that the PS2 dosent say it cant read the disc or invalid disc or some other error. It reads the disc and goes to load it stays on black screen for a 2-3 seconds and comes back to the browser saying no data on disc. That sounds like a bad disc to me not my laser. But this was company i bought it from.

that's too bad that the seller will not respond to your email. so you'll just have to resort to the cd to boot homebrew. use the link to the sksapps tutorial that i posted earlier in this thread.

also, with uLaunchELF (uLE) you can boot swap magic 3.3 & 3.6 elfs without having to use a disc. they are looming around the net so google for them.

I got FreeMcboot installed the night I got the discs..I just used the CD..So Its not like i need the DVD version. I just either back them up to HDD. And ones that dont work with HDD I patch with ESR and backed to DVD-R. But I paid for the CD&DVD. Not just the CD..lol..But Its cool..To much hassle to go through to get a working DVD. If they had good customer support It would be in the mail on the way here now..
