Swap Magic 3.6 vs CogSwapLoader / V1 vs V7
I think I understand what's going on here but I'd like someone with more experience to confirm it in case there's a better way to do it.
I have two PS2s. One is a V1, the other a V7. The V1 was starting to get flaky between the slide card usage and DREs so I set it up to exploit boot to HDLoader and stuck it in my work break room. When I was using it with burned discs, I used SwapMagic + slide card and it worked great. Just boot the SM disc, do the swap, and it was good to go.
Well now that I'm using the V7 at home, I've put a flip top on it (to avoid the tray problems the V1 started getting) and tried SM but ... it doesn't seem to work! I boot SM, swap the disc, and when I try to load the disc, it just reboots the system and gives me the usual invalid disc screen.
This is where CogSwapLoader comes in. If I exploit boot and start CSL, I can use CSL to swap in a TOC disc, then swap to the burn, and it works just fine. Of course this adds another step to the swap process and if I can work around it, that would be really nice.
I've read that the V7 has an extra copy protection step as compared to the older ones but if that's the case, what are all the other SM 3.6 users doing? Also, why does exploit-to-CSL work but SM doesn't?
Can someone help me out with the SM disc or am I just stuck using CSL on the V7?
Edit: Also, WTF is up with all this ZoneLoader business on swapmagicfix.com? It links all over to that other site and I'm not sure I really trust anything coming from there.
