Swap-Load all backups WITHOUT Swap Magic
OK, Ive been experimenting with this, and I really dont understand why people still use swap magic... As far as I have figured out it is not necessary.
Keep in mind my studies were performed on a Version 2 PS2...
Also, Keep in mind if Im stating something that is already widely known, common knowlege, Im sorry :banghead: I must be a moron, its just Ive never seen such a tutorial... If I knew about it I would have never bought Swap Magic.
OK, Commense the Jigglin' Y'all:
-----------------------------
Prerequisites:
a. This method requires you have the Independence exploit installed...
b. This method assumes you are working with PS2-Menu-K. Im sure any other menu will work, but the instructions assume you are using it.
c. a copy of COGSWAP on CD
d. an original ps2 disc larger than your backup (explained firther later)
Step-By-Step:
1. Boot up your exploit with a PS1 game. Wait for the menu to load.
2. Once the menu loads the disc spins down.
3. Swap the disc via FLIP TOP or SLIDE CARD to -CogSwap- CD.
4. Hit R1 button and select CDFS:
5. You should hear the disc spin up and the contents of the disc are shown.
6. Select BOOT.ELF from the list of files. This will start CogSwap.
7. Press EJECT on your PS2
8. Insert a High TOC ps2 Original DVD (see notes if you dont know what im talking about) to refresh the table of contents.
9. Press {X} on your controller
10. after a second or two the disc icon will turn purple and the text "USE COGSWAP" will display.
11. Swap to your Backup DVD via Flip-top or Slide-Card.
12. Press {X} on your controller
13. Enjoy your Game!!
NOTES:
a. I have not tested this with running cog-swap off the memory card with the compiled cogswap.elf... it may or may not work. If it does, its one less Flip-Top/Slide-Card swap you have to do. I will test it out sooner or later.
b. I have not tested it with PS2 CD backup games. It may or may not work, but I have crappy CD media at the moment that does not boot with my PS2.
C. A HIGH TOC ps2 game refers to a disc that has a lot of data on it. The ps2 can only read up to the size of the disc that is used to refresh the TOC, therefore it must be the same size or larger than the backup.
Devil May Cry is a common high TOC disc because it is commonly found, cheap and is the maximum size of a single layers DVD. (sonic mega collection, fifa 2005, def jam fight for ny, starwars battlefront, devil may cry 2, and time splitters 2 are some other common 4.37GB games that will work to refresh for ANY other sized ps2 single layer dvd game)
D. You may be wondering about those games that require what is known as a "Double Swap"... These are games that Swap Magic needs you to load with another swap with a program called CD-Loader. I have tested 3 such games with this method (see below) and it booted fine, as if it were any other game, no CD-loader required...
I have tested the following games with this method:
Hot Shots Golf Fore**
Magic Pengel
XenoSaga 2 (disc 1) **
Ratchet and Clank 3 **
KillZone
**normally requires CDloader
Can anyone confirm if this method works on higher versions of the PS2 (especially v7+)...
The one issue: installing the exploit without swap magic ;)
