I did do a search, but it seems that more discs than just the PSX Gameshark will work on a PS2 for booting PSX backups. Will any old PSX Gameshark disc work? What other commonly available discs would work?

I bought Swapmagic and a replacement lid for my new PS2, but failed to pay attention to the fact that Swapmagic doesn't boot PSX discs...which was the whole reason I bought the thing.

I have the new, slim PS2 and a replacement lid from ps2lid.com I've installed the lid and it seems to work with Swapmagic, but I need to figure out what I need to be able to boot PSX games. I've read that I need the PSX Gameshark that comes with Gameshark Version 2, but I've also seen that the Codebreakers disc works...and then I've also read that it doesn't work.

Is there anyone who can set the record straight?

basically ANY form of cheat device that comes in the form of a disc and a component of hardware you can plug into your ps2 (either usb or through mem card slot). it also has to spin down the disc to a stop for you to swap with a psx game. basically you start the cheat program then just swap and continue and it will work. i find gameshark the PSX version works for me. if its one of those parallel port cheat devices then it wont work since you can plug that into a ps2...

Hmm, I found a Gameshark 2 with the bonus PSOne disc, but it's just the discs, no hardware part. That won't work?

What part does the hardware component play in the process?

Will the Gameshark 2 do that without having the dongle attached? If so, then I'll go ahead and buy it. I'm just looking to be able to play some PS1 backups since I have the Swapmagic discs if I feel like making some PS2 backups for some reason.

i dont know what dongle is but if its gameshark2 version that spins down the cd to a stop before letting you choose what cheats you wanna load then it will work.

The PsOne disc will do just fine as a ps1 swapdisc on a ps2, ps1 and psone.

The "Dongle"-memorycard thingy works as a copy-protection (if it is not pluged in, the ps2 disc wont boot). The Ps1 bonus disc will boot even with no dongle. The dongle stores new cheat codes and codes used with the Dvd-movie Region settings.

First : Donno if any of this works on the new slimline ps2, but it works on the old one:

PS1 swap discs that boots ps1 backups on Ps2, Ps1 and PsOne:
    - Breaker Pro v1.1 (Everyone should have one of these - has a lot of uses - can be used as a high toc disc to play those 700mb ps2 dvd-rips)
    - Ps2 Gameshark 2 (v1.99) (Ps1 Bonus Code Archive Disc included in box)

Ps1 swap discs that works on ps1/PsOne only:
    X-change v2

(Dont forget the Gameshark 2 ps2 disc wont work as a swap disc unless its its a v1.97 of less - I have a v1.99 and it dosnt work )
