I'm having a different problem...my part A would not stick, so I took some drastic measures with some glue. This ruined the lid sensor by the power switch, and it thinks the lid is permanently open. I'm currently looking for a solution.

You might not have installed it correctly, when the disk is spinning is it in contact with anything, if yes with what?
You should be able to remove tool b by using a tweezer or somethin.

the causes of the grinding noise is the laser arm (it makes the laser move up and down)...maybe is worn out... it needs to be re-grease or replace for another 1.
