I've been browsing the forums but still there's something I don't quite understand yet: Is there a method to play my ps2 game backups without a modchip, swap magic, action replay or anything like that?

I own a scph-70004 ps2 slim and I did the sensor mod. I used to play ps1 backup by simple swapping from an original ps1 disc to my ps1 game backup. I heard this method could also be done for ps2 backups, that's the main reason I'm asking but if there's another way I'd like to know too.

I see, thanks for pointing me in the right direction, your guide sure clarifies a lot of stuff, now I actually now what I should be asking and that is: can I boot the burned cd containing the booting installer the same way I boot my psx backups? or is the booting installer cd actually like a ps2 backup?

you can use your current setup which is Exploit right ? well as far as you can access uLaunchELF then you can install FMCB via USB Drive and it has been explained how to do that in that link ( My signature )

I'm new here and don't know what the setup's called exactly... what I did was to block all 3 sensors on my ps2 slim, and I currently play my psx backups by going to the browser, inserting an original psx game, and then when it shows up in the browser, swapping the original disc by the backup and selecting the game.
I'm sorry but not sure I quite follow what you're saying... so I can't boot a burned cd containing the booting installer created the way you explain in your guide by the same method I use for psx games? a cd to be booted using this method will have to be slightly different, is that it? if that's the case how exactly should I create it?

You're describing the swap method, and yes, it should work to do it. But it may be easier to have someone just install it for you. Refer to the service thread's first post.

I already use the swap method on a daily basis (yes yes I know it damages the console but I'm not worried about that anymore), so it isn't hard for me AT ALL to use it. all I'm trying to find out is: should I use a psx or ps2 game as a trigger? can I swap them through the browser the way I described it? and most important of all: what installer cd should I create so it boots through this method? is it a cd exactly the same as the one in the tutorial? (this one http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials...lling_1.7.html)

I don't know about the swapping thing but you cannot start ulaunchelf(the program you use to browse in your ps2 and install fmcb) because ulaunchelf won't start in psx mode.

I think you can try ps2 game as a trigger. You need to give it a try it is a hit or a miss. and it isn't a big deal because there are volunteers willing to install it for free for you and lots of tutorials for you to install it yourself through other means as well.

tried to load the ulaunchelf boot cd using a ps1 game and a ps2 game, no luck. I thought that when I use a ps2 game as a trigger the console would be expecting a dvd so I tried burning the boot cd to a dvd as well, no luck...
is there really no way to use the swap trick for this? I came across a few threads of people asking the same question but the repliers weren't sure as well... I also found a thread where they came to the conclusion that it was indeed possible but with a ps2 retail disc (http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/swap...tml#post450117). are retail discs that much different from a ps2 original game disc?
