  1. #1 question concerning Swap Magic + Laser

Do the only problems occur with the laser when using modchips? Or can I use the Swap Magic Disc and DVD-R backups with no worries about the laser?
Yes, I searched for the answer and no dice.

the truth is that all lasers will die eventually (newer will last much long heh)

u wont' hafta worry bout swap magic killing ur laser heh
it actually depends on ur media (and perhasp the speed of burn'n or that mite be a myth)

people says that ritek-r are the best? heh try those ^_^

don't worry if a laser dies u can eaisly buy another one and replace it heh

also there mite be some prob games wit swap magic and some can't go online...so i should tell u to get a better mod (soldered of course or the new ezi?) heh

depending on if you have a flip top, careless swapping with Swap Magic could jostle the laser.

Also my PS2 is alot louder both when reading the Swap Magic CD and any backups. that has to be causing increased wear.

I don't normally use Swap Magic. I just used it to load exploit onto memory card....and then play games off hard drive.

The truth of the matter is this, whether you use Swap Magic or a modchip, burnable media will wear out a laser faster than using pressed versions of games.

I'm not saying your laser will go out immediately just like *snaps* THAT, but someday it will go out. It would have gone out anyway, even if you never played any copied games.

The old superstition that "If you used Swap Magic, your PS2's laser will die within hours" is totally false, as I've been using Swap Magic on my slim line PS2 for quite some time.

Laser life is pretty much totally random, if your laser dies, just send it into Sony for repairs. As far as I know they fix disc read errors and shit like that for free, so pirate all you want.

I do have another thing to add as far as laser life, use media that your Playstation 2 has an easier time reading. It will extend the life even further.

If you use cheap media and your Playstation 2 has a hard time reading it, has longer load times than normal, or skips during movie playback while reading the media. USE DIFFERENT MEDIA. Either that or try burning at a slower or faster speed. If you keep using burns that your Playstation 2 has trouble reading, you're really putting unneccessary stress on your laser.
