Question about Swap Disk
Okay, I came across the "Magic Boot Disk V.3.2 (http://www.playstationmodchip.com/pr...ls.asp?ID=1245), and at the very buttom of the page it says this:
"Note: Boot disk only allows use of 74 minute cdr."
Does that mean the basic 80 min. CDR disks will not work? if it does that's pretty gay.
BTW, a quick question, can you use these boot disks to play back-ups? I'm not really planning to, I mainly want it for the PS2 Reality and the emulators, but if it can thats a bonus.
no it can play 80 min 700mb CDRs. the important thing is not letting it EXCEED the limit of 74 min or about 650? mb worth of memory. this is because of TOC of swap magic not being high enough. personally the CDR SM disc is CRAP . it sucks plain and simple. will not boot most the time on v9/10 ps2. id much prefer using the SM DVD to boot dvdloader then installing exploit to get cdloader running by psx disc. no need to worry about CD SM.
and yes it CAN boot backups including ps1 games but that requires either ps2os or gameshark1 in order to work. but like i said get cdloader exploit youll like it alot better than that crappy SM CD version. and you need flip top or slide card to play backups btw if you dont know already ;)
Yeah, I have a gameshark and I was excited when I saw I could use that as a swap disk, but that was before I learned I had V.4 and it automaticly opens/closes the tray, so you can't do it :(.
Thanks for the info, BTW, another quick question, will I be able to boot stuff like the PS2 Reality Media Player and emulators and that kind of stuff no problem with the CD SM? or is that what you were talking about with giving problems.
Yes you can. But some games/apps will require use of CDloader to boot correctly.
most the program you mention need cdloader so i recommend you find a way to get cdloader exploit on there so you dont have to swap multiple times.
What is cdloader...
I heard of it but I'm not sure what it is.
kinda like a program to boot some games that dont work properly. most emulators or homebrew apps need it if you are swapper or some even require it if your chipper. the exploit allows you to run this program off a PSX original game so you dont need to use SM then swap with CDLoader CD version. after it loads you can swap with emulator or app.
SwapMagic is really crappy. After installing the exploit I never used it again.
The discs, especially the CD, take a long time to boot, sometimes I even get the "red screen of death" and I'm worried about my PS2's disc drive, because SM makes it do very strange screeching and clicking noises.
Why the heck does the SM CD have a TOC that small anyway? Couldn't they have corrected that with the later versions? Not to mention that many games and apps aren't compatible with SM and you have to use cdloader or something like that.
I do have problems booting the cd version but i use it as my backup when cogswap doesn't work. The dvd version is fine though.
But you can refresh the TOC no problem by hitting eject once the cd has loaded and inserting a game with a higher TOC; i put in BreakerPro and have no problem.
Swapmagic isn't crappy at all...it works.
swapmagic isnt crap its actually really nice...at least the DVD version. CD version is crappy thats why id recommend using exploit for cd-r backups. or you can alternatively use dvdloader which is essentially the same thing.
