Question about NTSC/PAL and moving home.

I moved house recently into the USA from UK. I brought my consoles and tv along. Got a reverse voltage adapter to run them. I then moved into the 21st centurey and bought an HDTV.

Problem is now my picture is horrid from my PAL consoles (rolling, black and white). Now I have an infinity modchip in my PS2. I had it done for me so know very little.

I realised that my xboxs chip allows me to change video modes in the OS. I was wondering if there was something similar to save my bacon with the PS2?

ALSO: My firmware is undoubtedly pretty old. Should I update?
