PSTWO (slimline 70003) - what are the options without chipping? PLEASE HELP!

I posted this (quoted below) a few days ago.

I'd like some help / advice on exploiting my slimline PS2 which is a 70003 PAL model. I'm new to all this, but do work in IT, so am comfortable with the connectivity, using FTP and all the rest of it.

I understand I can't make use of the independance exploit on a slimline PS2 and my main question is; is Swap Magic the only way to run stuff without a mod chip?

Sub question; is there an easy way for me to launch ELFs like from a USB device with a list of the ELFs to launch, etc? Whether this is dependant on starting initially with Swap Magic or not.

I've had Swap Magic 3.6 delivered and have used it to boot a CD of Reality Player. Only used this to play stuff from my PC using ps2vfs over the network so far and video was a bit choppy (XviD)... am using a Wi-Fi (54Mbps) link to my PC for this at the moment, but intend to run a cable to see if it's the Wi-Fi that's the problem.

I've also tried (and failed so far) to run SMS 1.5 from an old USB 1.1 64MB pen drive I had lying around using Swap Magic. It just doesn't seem to do anything with the drive - the LED lights on the drive when I power up the PS2, then it goes off and shows no activity when I try to load program using swap magic. I have done all the renaming as per the manual \swapmagic\swapmagic.elf, etc (tried upper and lower case). I do have a different external USB device lying around (an Archos 20GB USB HDD) and wondered about trying that?

This all sounds a bit garbled - sorry. Any advice would be greatly appreciated... I don't seem to be able to find a lot of info on exploiting the slimline PS2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, the main motiviation is to use the PS2 as a media player - but to learn as much about it as I can along the way. I also wondered about using a USB HDD (USBExtreme perhaps?) as well that I have lying around.

Apologies if I've missed existing posts on this subject... I couldn't find anything specific to my query, hence this.

my PS2 is a model: SCPH-70003 PAL... I think this is a V12.

why do you not just use swap magic to boot your ps2? It is the easiest way. Use swap magic and a fliptop/ magic switch designed for the slim. Alternatives are using an external hard drive and usb advance (free on other sites), or i guess i used to use a gameshark to boot it with an original dvd (not recommended). Swap magic i think is the best idea just use a fliptop ( i use a no solder modchip)

I've got magic switches already and am using them.

The thing I'd like to know about is launching ELFs really. Is there a way I can launch an ELF launcher from a USB device and / or a memory card (and then launch subsequent ELFs from there too) - after booting with swap magic?

I guess a good question for me to ask would be, what's the best way for me to launch SMS 1.5 using swap magic?

hm...honestly I am getting my swap magic any day now when i ordered them online.

Which version do you have? The swap magic 3.6 (new) has a built in program loader to load from a usb device/ memory card. (if you have this then tell me and ill send you info. If not then look below for various methods. Let me know how it works out like i said I have not had experience with this but am great with computers and ps2.)

ok here is a quick tutorial i found in case you do not have the newest version of swap magic.

Method 1: Boot the Independence Installer Disc

-Swap Magic Discs

-Action Replay/Gameshark Version 2


If you have one of these discs, you can use it to load the PS2 and then swap out with a backup disc (in this case the Independence Installer CD), and load it. To do this, you need a fliptop lid, or a slide card or similar tool.


Method 2: Copy the files Directly to the Memory Card via USB

-Action Replay/Gameshark MAX or EVO

-Codebreaker Version 8 or Higher


Obviously, this method requires a USB flash drive. If you have this already, you simply need to purchase or borrow one of the above products. I recommend Codebreaker for this method. Codebreaker is compatible with more Flash Drives than AR MAX and costs only half as much. The newest version of Codebreaker (9) also supports Hard Drives for storing codes and saved games.


If you can't get a Codebreaker, the Action Replay/Gameshark works equally well, although support for USB drives is spotty. Also, if you don't already have a USB Flash Drive, you can get a version of Action Replay that comes with one. There are multiple versions of the Gameshark and Action Replay software. It is not always easy to distinguish what version you are holding by package alone. The rule of thumb is that if it mentions a “Media Player” on the package of comes with the afore mentioned USB Drive, it will work for the purposes of installing the exploit.


Method 3: Copy Files Directly to the Memory Card via Network

-Action Replay/Gameshark MAX or EVO


This method, pioneered by our own DiGiTaLeX, uses your PC to act as a code server for the AR MAX/Gameshark cheat disc. The upshot of this, is that by running the software on your network enabled PC, and updating the cheat list in the ARMAX/GS interface, the PS2 will be tricked into downloading your preconfigured exploit files. All versions of ARMAX/GS that work with method 2 should be suitable for method 3. Codebreaker cannot be used with this method.

I've got Swap Magic 3.6 - but not having a lot of success with the USB pen drive I've been trying. Going to try a different drive tomorrow.
