Hey everyone im new here and i want to know if my ps2 is hackable or not it is a SCPH-9002 0D i have been seraching for ages and im not sure if it is so thanks for any help on this.
There is no PS2 console model SCPH-9002 (All PS2 models have 5-digit code numbers), so I assume you really meant an SCPH-90002. And if "0D" is the datecode, then it was made in the last quarter of 2010, which means that it is bound to have the new bios version that makes the FMCB homebrew boot system unusable.
I myself have a console with that bios too (an SCPH-90004), and the only 'almost' soft-mod I've found for it is to use the boot discs of "SwapMagic v3.8 'coder'", to boot homebrew elfs either from a USB drive or from a PS2 MC. Another useful feature is that it contains a cheat engine that works on these new consoles (unlike CodeBreaker which always freezes on the newest models).
I do not ever use the feature that was the original purpose of 'SwapMagic' though, since I consider such disc swapping an inappropriate way of messing up your hardware.
Instead I use the SwapMagic discs mainly for booting uLaunchELF (== uLE) from MC (or USB) stored as "/SWAPMAGIC/SWAPMAGIC.ELF", which is a filename that the boot program of SwapMagic looks for at each hard reset, and if that file is found it is launched without questions asked (this can be overriden by holding a button, so as to reach the SwapMagic menu for cheats etc).
And once I have uLE booted I can use the console exactly like I would if I had booted uLE through FMCB, including the use of ESR for running burned backups (without needing the sensor blocking that 'swap' methods would require). But mostly I let uLE launch "Open PS2 Loader" (== OPL), so as to use the ability of OPL to run PS2 games from a huge collection stored on my PC, using SMB protocol over LAN. This way no burning of discs is necessary, and I can leave the SwapMagic disc in the tray all the time, as I use the CDVD drive only for booting into uLE (or occasionally to reach the SM cheat menu).
In fact it is even possible to use such a console for installing and testing FMCB setups for the older models. The only limitation is that Sony took away the ability of the bios to auto-boot it from MC. But you can still start FMCB from uLE if you like. Though there isn't much point to doing it except when installing and testing an MC for another console.
I really think this kind of SwapMagic setup is the best possible for these new PS2 models.
It is almost as good as FMCB booting, with the one drawback that you do rely on the CDVD drive for a few seconds of each boot session. But with such low usage it will never fail from being worn out.
