PS2 Modding without a modchip
PS2 Modding without a modchip –
"you need a modchip to read any kind of burned CD/DVD. w/o one you cannot download HDL and just use it."
Hey everyone... I'm a n00b to the PS2 modding scene, but a long time Xbox modder. I just got a new flat PS2 (very thin new model of a PS2) and I was wondering about doing some modding without a modchip. I was trying to read some stuff but I didn't understand any of it so here I am asking for some help.
Alright first thing first, what methods are there in order to mod PS2 without opening it in anyway? I have a DVD burner so will I be able to play my burned backups on my PS2 without a modchip? I put that quote there since I saw it in a post and I just want to make sure about that.
I've read around about something called magic boot disk which allows you to play your backups by simply swapping. Anyone have more detail on this and does this method work well? It costs around $20U.S so that's not too bad.
Also, I'd like to mention that I have gameshark and the cartridge and several memory cards.

slim ps2 = very poor quality and no hdl support. as for modding it w/o opening it...that is impossible. even using the swap method you need to open it and solder a point on the board. stuff like this can be searched so plz dont post repeatative topics .
it's impossible to MODD your system without opening it...especially the slim one...sorry to say this but this system have die out on many peeps who try to mod it...
Check my bros site...it's simple but get the message across...IMPORT LOVERS...CAR THAT IS...
Okay, thanks than I won't bother with modding it. Done with these forums now .
Its not impossible you fools... It is (as of now) with the slim ps2. But the full size ps2, you can use Mr. Browns memory card exploit. All you would need is a psx game, ps2 memory card, and an home made swap card. Searh around for the topic with the link to the tutorial on how to make all of this. But as of playing backups on a normail v1-11 ps2 its not impossible. But modding the ps2 v12 is not hard at all. There is ver *EASY* configuring you can do to get everything to work right. So no big worries. Sine you said your a long time xboxer then you have most likely opend your xbox to maybe swap out the hdds or install a solderless modchip. Also, there is anouther alternitave. You can send your ps2 to a professional modchip installer for your model type (v12). Regreatably, I have not modded a v12 so I woundn't be able to do it. But there are many TRUSTABLE people on this forum that could do it for you very cheap ($20 us). Its just what ever you want to do.
