Hey I'm new here anyway. I'm using a Sandisk 2GB Cruzer USB and a PS2 Slim with Codebreaker 8.0 (i think its OLD the all yellow disc) and it just freezes when I plug the USB in and unfreezes when I take it out... and got a PS2 Fat (just found it in storage) but the lasers broke, could it be softmodded still?. thanks in advance! lookin forward to learning to hack my playstations to heck

Well, I don't know if you posted in the wrong area or not but...
For one, make sure your usb stick is formatted to FAT32. It's also possible that it's just not compatible with the PS2 or with CB 8.0.
Second, according to the FMCB Codebreaker Installation tutorial here, you can't use Codebreaker 8.0 to install FMCB, as it says Codebreaker 8.1 or newer.
Third, i'm pretty sure you wouldn't need FMCB installed if you already had it installed, and I'm pretty sure you can't install FMCB on an unmodded(soft or hard) ps2 without using a disk, and you said that your FAT ps2's laser is dead.
Therefore, i have no idea why your flashdrive freezes up with CB 8.0 and If you don't already have FMCB installed on your memory card, you can't install it with the FAT ps2, so your gonna have to find another way to install it(check here(hover over the "Installation" section at the top of the page) for ways to install it with the slim ps2), or have someone install it onto your memory card for you. There is a list of people who will install it for you available here ([READ FIRST POST!][Free Service!]I can install fmcb for you!)
Also, when asking for help with something concerning the PS2, always include your PS2's version number(ex. v9, v10, v13, etc.)/SCPH code(ex. SCPH-XXXXX). For example, my FAT ps2 is a v10, it has SCPH-50001

All versions of CodeBreaker that support USB access are incompatible with PSTwo slim models v14 or later (product codes SCPH-750xx or higher (last two digits are region)). The CodeBreaker program will always freeze if any USB device is connected on a console of those newer models. It is the USB drivers of the CodeBreaker program which simply are not compatible to the modified hardware of those newer PSTwo models.

Sure it can. The FMCB boot system (Free MC Boot) will work on all models of the fat PS2 and on all except the latest models of the slim PSTwo (will not work on some of the newest SCPH-900xx or later models)

Then you should go inside the forum for "Homebrew/Dev..." and on into its subforum for Free MC Boot. There you will find all you need.
And what Bootlegninja probably meant in his post above is that he is fed up (since long) with people posting queries that have already been answered 'umpteen million times' before. A simple browsing of the available forums here, and reading some of the main headings for subforums and threads, should quickly have led you to some of the answers you wanted, without having to ask about them yourself, and then you would have had a better basis for asking more pertinent questions in a post of your own about how to proceed with whatever stuff you have available.

I mean about that. it's not the question that irritates, it's the delivery. I can deal with minimal butchering of sentence structure. Total bastardization is another. I have enough migraine headaches each week without the text walls, constant run-on sentences, and cell text language. Those are a visual representation to 'fingernails on a chalk board' is on sound.

Yes, I agree. I too naturally prefer consistent and correct use of the language. But since the PS2 user group is widely distributed both over nationalities and over age groups, I'm afraid some 'bastardization' is inevitable.
Hopefully some of these guys are at least willing to learn...
And the best way to teach them must be to set a good example ourselves.

tried that too in the beginning. they usually ignore it and pretty much taunt you with it.

Thanks dlanor, The versions are Slim: SCPH-77001 v15 Fat: SCPH-35001 v4. Ok I'll go to the free mcboot section and read around.

Both those models should work fine with FMCB, and an MC with FMCB installed for 'Multiversion' use will boot on either one of them. So you can continue to swap MCs between them without problems.
And as you already concluded this is where we should let this particular thread end, as you can bring up any new questions on the subject in the FMCB subforum instead.
