I am trying to install a ps1 exploit on my memory card with my gameshark 2 version 1.2
I followed various different guides, tried naming it different things, used different versions of the independence compiler and ps2 save builder, etc.
But I cannot get it to work, when I copy the save from my usb drive to my memory card, it results in a question mark instead of the save file.
Other files, without the .ps2 extension, will copy over correctly.

    Any ideas to fix this?

Other information: (idk if it's relevant or not)
    -phat ps2 v7 SCPH-39001/N
    -attempted ps1 trigger disk: Tarzan
-The PS2 does have a crappy lazer, I don't think it could affect this though

Also, my ps2 doesn't have the white tab for the slide tool. I even took off the case and I still can't see anything. Am I the only one with this or is it like this on all v7 ps2s? It's not a very big deal for me because I don't plan on using it, but I thought it was odd.

After your file transferred and you got the "?", did you test the disc to see if it would work? If it still doesn't work for you after trying it out, I made a post a while back trying to help someone in a similar situation. You can find it here. Let me know if it works for you.

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I tried the disk and it didn't work, and yours from your other post didn't work either.
Maybe I have one of the few games that isn't compatible? (it's the only one I have D: )

why use independence exploit when you can use free mc boot?
V7 ps2, flip top, 2x 8MB sony memcards, FMCB 1.8b, ESR r9b, Cogswap, Hdloader0.8c, 250 gig Western Digital, poorly modded(but functional) network adapter

I assumed he was doing it as one of the initial steps in making an FMCB install.
To do that he must somehow start a homebrew elf, and the PS1 exploit is one of the ways to do this.

Yes, that is what I am trying to do.
I don't think I have to required tools for any other options. I'll check again, but I doubt it.

    Edit:
Question-why is this guide labeled PS1 exploit, but it has nothing to do with the ps1 at all?
Whatever that method is supposed to be called, I tried it, but my gameshark automatically opens the tray. If I held it closed would the ps2 still sense that it was supposed to be opened and redo the check for an original disk?
And I just tried to start my gameshark on my slim ps2(because it's a lot easier to try that method on a sensor blocked slim) and during the loading it stops transmitting the tv signal, it goes to the blue screen like my ps2 is off or not plugged it. Other games work fine though, and it does still work on my phat ps2 still (although, it goes to the blue screen for about half a second) Any idea what could be causing this?
    Thanks.

That is clearly a problem with the editing of these HTML pages.

There are two gameshark-based guides, and this has misled someone to link these two guides incorrectly, so that the menu link for the PS1 exploit guide leads to the one for the swaptrick.

If you click on the link for "GameShark- SharkPort" you will reach the guide that describes the PS1_exploit method.

Whoever made those links seems not to have realized that the 'SharkPort' guide is the same one as the 'PS1 exploit'. So he made one menu entry for each of them, and never made one properly named for the 'SwapTrick' guide, though he incorrectly linked this one in the menu entry for the 'PS1 exploit' guide.

These things happen, but now you know how to reach the correct guide, and most likely someone will soon correct that error (to avoid confusing future users as well).

    Best regards: dlanor

Do you know who I would contact to ask them to fix that for future users? Is it the same admin as these forums?
It's also missing the method I am attempting to use (the other gameshark one on there is using a program on your computer to send the gamesave to your gameshark, that doesn't work with all of them) The AR ps1 exploit is basically the same thing though, they could just add it to that.

Anyways, I'm assuming the "?" filename isn't the problem, because sk8rping said it will do that in his other post. So is the problem my ps1 game's compatibility? Or another reason for this?

Is your Tarzan game ID SCUS_944.56 or SLUS_015.37? Apparently there was a re-release of the game and the exploit file I uploaded in that other post included the first ID but not the second one.

    It's SLUS_015.37;
I don't think it would make a difference though because I'm 99% sure I did it right.
I'm going to ask my friend if he has any ps1 games, and if it still doesn't work I'll just send my mc to one of the people who will do it for free.
