    So basically my online friend told me how to hack my PS2 Slim using the codebreaker[he used action replay] and the FMCB, but i been having a hard time trying to make it BOOT
    It won't start up i been following the guide Bootleg made but my PS2 Slim just lags then once i take the USB out of my PS2 with the FMCB files everything goes back to
    normal and the codebreaker loads normally. I tried 4 different USB storage devices but none of them want to work. I also notice other people having problems booting it with codebreaker 10. Im using the latest FMCB 1.6 i tried putting all the files and folders exactly where they belong. In the tutorial it also ask to make sure the files are name properly

    Code:
    You can place the following files into the INSTALL folder's root:

        * BOOT.ELF    { uLaunchELF is the best file manager/ELF launcher available}
        * ESR.ELF        { used to run backups without the need to swap discs, patching required }
        * HDLOADER.ELF   { run games from an internal HDD }
        * SMS.ELF    { best Media Player available }

    Exact filenames as shown above are case sensitive with the default FREEMCB.CNF. If you use different filenames, then it wont work until you configure the FREEMCB.CNF More info on editing the CNF further down in the tutorial.
    These files will be listed and linked to run from the Sony main menu .
    Also it says that it should be a * ESR.ELF but instead when i download the latest ESR it comes with 3 files and i don't know which to use
    Also when i download the SKINS i don't know where to put them, would someone be nice enought to help me SET UP all the files and folders together.
    Im using a USA PS2 Slim i been trying to hack it for so long and i decided since my friend couldn't find and answer to join this site and maybe someone would help me.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I recognize that symptom and it probably means that your slim PStwo is a v14 or newer model (product code equal to or larger than SCPH-75000). Unfortunately CodeBreaker does not work with USB devices on these PStwo models. As you noticed it won't even boot correctly on such a console when a USB device is connected.

    So you will have to use some other method for installing FMCB, as CodeBreaker is not capable of doing it on these PStwo models. (But Action Replay doesn't have that problem.)

    I also notice other people having problems booting it with codebreaker 10. Im using the latest FMCB 1.6 i tried putting all the files and folders exactly where they belong. In the tutorial it also ask to make sure the files are name properly
    Yes, that is very important. Most of all installation problems are due to filenames with wrong spelling or wrong character casing, or misplacing them in the folder structure.

    Also it says that it should be a * ESR.ELF but instead when i download the latest ESR it comes with 3 files and i don't know which to use
    The one to use from the release of ESR revision 9a is the one named "ESR beta r9a dvdv direct.elf", since that is the most 'generic' variant. The one with "off" in the filename is intended as a compatibility fix for a few special games (but ruins compatibility with some others). And the one with "mcard" in the filename is intended for restarting uLaunchELF (aka: uLE) with the ability to access ESR patched DVD-R discs.

    When you are just starting out you don't need to bother with all of them, as they can be installed from USB later by using uLE.

    Also when i download the SKINS i don't know where to put them, would someone be nice enought to help me SET UP all the files and folders together.
    Skins are optional, so this is another thing you may as well put on hold until you have installed the basic stuff in working order. At this early stage much of the optional stuff just adds unwanted complications.

    Im using a USA PS2 Slim i been trying to hack it for so long and i decided since my friend couldn't find and answer to join this site and maybe someone would help me.
    Only with advice I'm afraid, and that alone is not enough to do the job for you, as you will need some other tool than CodeBreaker to handle your first-time install. Other cheat engines can do the job even on new PStwo models, but not all of those cheat engine versions will do, as some versions lack the ability to launch any programs from USB. But another tool which can do that is SwapMagic v3.6 or newer. Much of this information is amply covered in the FMCB install tutorials available both on this site and on other PS2-related sites.

    You should enter the Homebrew/Dev forum of this site, and there enter the subforum about "FreeVAST" (an older name for "Free McBoot"), where you will find lots of information and ongoing discussions on everything related to FMCB.

    Just be careful to check that you get an Action Replay version of the correct kind. From what I've heard you need a version with a media player included (apparently that is involved in the elf launching), and this seems to have been removed in recent releases.

    My own feelings exactly, when I noticed that it didn't work with USB on my v15 PStwo...
    (But I also have a modchipped v7 PS2, so it was no disaster for me.)

    Btw:
    If you know someone with a modchipped PS2/PStwo of the same region as yours, and who will let you use that console temporarily, then you can use it to make the installation of FMCB to your MC, without having to buy any tools. You just need to burn a CD/DVD with freeware homebrew tools, boot this on the modded console, and use them to launch the Free McBoot installer.

    As I don't use AR myself, I'm not sure which versions can do the job. What I said about AR earlier was just relayed hearsay. But if you check out the FMCB install tutorials for Action Replay, they should contain the details you need. So check out the 'sticky' tutorials thread in the FreeVAST subforum (inside the Homebrew/Dev forum).

    Too bad, as this means you will need to buy some commercial tool to do the install. It's possible to 'swap' discs without such, and make it work for booting a DVD-R, but I wouldn't advise trying it. It's too easy to damage the CDVD drive that way.
