Playing imports on Slim 90001

I've sure this has been asked many times and there may even be a topic for but I couldn't find it, so I apologize. Anyway, what are my options for playing Japanese games on this system? I'd rather not have an actual modchip and I'm not interested in playing back-ups, just Japanese PS2 games.

I found out the flip top no longer works for this version of the Slim. But I just read that I could use Breaker Pro to load Swap Magic, and then the Japanese PS2 game. Is this true?

If not, what else can I do? A lot of this confuses me so I wanted to make a topic of my own. Thanks.

I don't understand your refusal to play import games in the form of backups.
Making an unmodded console accept an original pressed game from another region is quite hard.
But making it accept a backup run through backup game loaders like ESR or OPL is quite simple, since no game region limitations apply to these programs.

So why do you reject the simple methods in favour of a difficult or unworkable one ?

That is all the more mysterious considering how inconvenient disc swapping is, as compared to OPL use where you may not need any physical discs at all, once you've installed the games to a PC for running over LAN. (The OPL method I prefer most myself.)

Oh, I don't refuse to play back-ups. I just wanted to get my point across that all I want to do is play imports and I figured it'd require the least amount of hassle by just swapping out for the actual game. Like I said, I'm ignorant to a lot of what the PS2 can do, as I'm just use to swapping out some sort of boot disc on other consoles to play an import.

The thing is that playing your imports as backups is better for both your console and your games in the long run. You want to be able to play for a long time, don't you? This is why we're suggesting OPL network as an alternative to swap method because when you swap, you're risking damage to your disc and console.

It may take a bit more to do it this way, but it's better in the long run.

But is any of this possible with the model of PS2 I have? From the research I've done I'm low on options.

There is a SLIGHT chance that you'll be able to run FMCB after all. Sony didn't start removing the feature that allows people to run FMCB until almost the end of the 8C batch. There are some that work, some that don't.

Have you tried installing it?

I have no idea what that is, lol. I really don't know anything about this stuff. That's why I was hoping for a simple swap method.

Search FMCB. Read up on it and see why we recommend it so much. It's a LOT easier than the swap method because you don't have to swap stuff out or open up your console.
