So I heard that a little piece of paper is just as good as one of the swap magic tools (the only one that a 9000X needs). To what specification do I need to cut the paper? Is the by any chance, damaging in the long run?

DO a google search for PS2 to Slim sensor Mod...
There are other ways, then just paper..
And yes, any type of swapping is eventually bad for the console..

500 INSTALLS DONEThey are all the old mods for the 7000X's, but since you're quite adamant that there are tutorials out there, can I assume that only the paper blocking of the disc drive with the 7000X's is the same for 9000X's? And I was told that a sliver of paper is used, but a ball of tissue is just as good?
I opened my V15 up and taped the front sensor down (by power button), and cut a small piece of plastic, and drilled a hole in it and and cover the back sensor up. When you screw it back together, the screw that goes through the hole, and holds that sensor down. The other sensor is just removing the spring on the disk stop mechanism.
DJ
500 INSTALLS DONEMy question is, is a ball of tissue a good substitute for sensor blocking tool A (by the power button), as in, is it alright to use tissue instead of the manufactured plastic tool, and are there any problems with this on a 9000X model (v17-18 motherboards)?
Just use the ESR method described by Dlanor, i don't think you'll be needing any sensor block .
Yea, I agree with flo. Using the swap method is only useful if you plan to run psx games on your playstation 2. If your only playing playstation 2 games, using magic swap to boot ESR will suffice.
Alright, but say I don't like blank discs (because I don't), what's this Open PS2 loader I've been hearing so much about? Is it an .elf program? Is it a Loader type .elf like ULE? Do I have to format a USB HDD in any special way (like HDL needs certain formatting)? And how's USBAdvance/extreme in comparison to OPL? I definitely won't touch networking, I really don't want another device to be powered on.
First off the tissue mod will work just fine for swapping PSX games and what not as I have been doing this on my V12 for well over 2yrs now with no issues..
As for OPL:
The main thread for OPL can be found HERE (Open PS2 Loader Project - v0.9)
If you would like to know more about OPL you can check out JN's manual for OPL HERE
To answer your questions:
OPL is an open source .ELF..
It is a loader for the PS2 that allows you to play your PS2 game backups (via HDD or USB or through SMB) ((NOTE: HDD is currently not available in 0.6 official release however will be in the 0.7 release - SMB is playing games stored on your local networked PC to your PS2))
Comparability to OPL and USBAdvance/Exstream is as follows:
OPL as well as USBAdv/Ex still runs through the same old 1.1 USB hub so speed up is not allowed thus they are the same there..
However game compatibility is rather higher (28% more games can play on OPL USB then on USBAdv/Ex)..
This is all due to the project being open source and with that said will always be updated..
Make sure to read all of the links I have given you as you will be amazed by what OPL can do thus far in its early development..

Ya Im Bi-Poler and proud of it
Thanks guys, will definitely go the SMv3.8 coder route.
Hmm, what should I put for the top 4 apps? I'm thinking I'll have OPL, ESR, and uLE, what should I have for the fourth app? Keeping in mind that I won't be using emulators and SMS.
EDIT: Hmm, seems like now that there is an unofficial uLE going around, maybe I'll have the latest official and latest unofficial?
EDIT 2: WOAHWOAHWOAH, am I misunderstanding something, or does ESR mean you can just chuck in a patched copy of a game into an unmodded console?
EDIT 3: Nevermind, I just seriously misread the readme. Sigh, I'm gonna sleep.
