Alright so, I'm trying to play some burnt ps1 games that I downloaded off of romhustler or whatever and I'm trying to play them on my v7 scph-39001 ps2. I watched a few videos online were all they did was turn on their ps2 go to the browser screen, inserted an original ps1 game then when the disc icon showed up on the browser they did the cog pin swap trick to put in the burnt copy of a game and then slid the tray back in the ps2 put the cog pin back its place and started playing the game. I did all of that, to the tee and yet my game gets stuck on the ps1 logo screen, any ideas why?
now i would be interested in softmodding my ps2 but the tutorial on here by dv8 doesnt specify whether i need a ps1/ps2 memory card, and it also requires a modded ps2 in order to get the boot files unto the memory in the first place... so doesnt that defeat the purpose of softmodding . I did see that he gave other ways of loading the boot files via the cheat device CDs but i dont own any and i dont have a hd either, so basically what can i do to run burnt ps1 games on my nonmodded ps2 ? (preferably without having to purchase anything other than like black CD-rs lol)

Sorry, but you're not allowed to request help on getting pirated software to run here.

It's probably because you did it at the wrong time.
From my own understanding of the swap trick used here, it needs to be done precisely at the right time.

now i would be interested in softmodding my ps2 but the tutorial on here by dv8 doesnt specify whether i need a ps1/ps2 memory card, and it also requires a modded ps2 in order to get the boot files unto the memory in the first place... so doesnt that defeat the purpose of softmodding .
If you're talking about installing FMCB, then you need a Playstation 2 Memory Card.
However, there currently isn't a way to run Playstation games without a modchip (Or some swap trick)...

However there's a new Playstation emulator that's still in the works.

I did see that he gave other ways of loading the boot files via the cheat device CDs but i dont own any and i dont have a hd either, so basically what can i do to run burnt ps1 games on my nonmodded ps2 ? (preferably without having to purchase anything other than like black CD-rs lol)
There isn't a way to, until that Playstation emulator that's still under development is released.

well im not sure if it helps but the games that i downloaded from that site I actually own i just dont have them with me at the moment since i recently moved away for college. Could you possibly link me to the thread where they talk about the swapping trick and when to it etc? I was also wondering if it matter whether i used a ps1 game or the swapmagic disc, do they both do the same thing?

There are a couple of things worth noting, that is if you didn't already know!

Booting your backup requires that the initial backup you load to be the same region as your original disc. If you're trying to boot a backup from a different region you need to get yourself a copy of Breaker Pro (from your region), that will then allow you to boot foreign backups. Breaker Pro doesn't need to be an original, just as long as it's from your region.

I've had no luck booting my PSX discs on my Fat PS2, not sure why this is, I currently load them on a Slim using PSX launcher when I'm in my other room (as my living room has an actual PSX in there which I use to play).

When booting them using uLaunchelf (via FCMB) on the fat, I insert my original, then load uLaunchelf with Disc Control ON which stops the disc from spinning - I swap it with my backup from the same region. I then return to PS2 Browser, click on the disc icon and it shows the PS1 boot logo then it just hangs there.

Using PSX launcher (which only works on v9 and up) on my slim works perfectly. Just don't know what I'm doing wrong on my PS2 fatty.

the games im trying to run are just breath of fire 4 (SLUS-01324) and the epic ffvii lol so i dont think the region is an issue here. cogswap seems to be the easiest and most effective way to boot up ps1 backup copies, i just dont know how to get it on my memory card =[

Well just mentioning it as it took me a while before I realised my PS2 wasn't loading any games because I was trying to load an NTSC (USA) image on a PAL (UK) console without swapping with breaker pro first. Doing that just gets you a black screen.

So if you've downloaded a fresh copy (if your originals are scratched to shit like mine are) check what region they are because it does matter how you boot them.

Cogswap doesn't load PS1 games ether, only PS2 DVD / CD as far as I know. I have tried booting PSX games with it to no avail. I read it doesn't have PSX boot functionality at all.
