No-mod way of booting ps1 games?

i have the MC exploit installed perfectly and have several elfs on the card already including hdloader, hdadvanced, usbadvanced, execftp and hdld_srv. is it possible to boot ps1 games somehow using what i have? every guide on the internet is for backing up and booting ps2 games but i cant find anything for ps1. i used Toast on mac to burn the ISO of Metal Gear Solid 1, both at max speed and 1x speed and neither would load up using Gameshark and Cogswap (which is what i did to install MC exploit). is there a way to load ps1 games?

and im also getting a new hdd, i heard hdloader wont backup ps1 games?
