I'm putting the question of possibly pirated games to the side for a moment, since that is still unverified. The only definitely pirated games mentioned in this thread are the DVD-R games sold by the same vendor that sold the FMCB card. But the crime in question here was committed by the vendor, not by Mandy who probably acted 'in good faith', so we have no reason to badger her about that.
Instead I want to focus everyones attention on a key fact that I'm surprised that some of you seem to have missed.
The burned DVD-R game discs sold to Mandy together with the FMCB card do work, and this makes most of the early advice about installing or replacing the ESR elf rather pointless.
I agree that it would be better for her to have all the newest and best stuff we've developed in these forums, but it should not be needed in order for her to burn working DVD-R game discs herself. And since she doesn't seem so well informed on the techie side of this stuff, an FMCB reinstallation may not be a realistic option at this stage.
As mentioned in an earlier post by TnA, she simply had the bad luck of trying it first with one of the very few games which happens to be incompatible to ESR (this happens with less than 1% of all games in my experience), so there is nothing to be done about it for that particular game, without replacing ESR (which she may not yet be up to doing herself).
Most likely she will have better results with other games, without having to reinstall or replace any part of her MC setup, and without any major changes to her current methods. And once she has gained sufficient confidence in how to use our homebrew tools, such as uLE, she can then try making an FMCB/uLE setup having both the old and the new ESR versions available, starting the old one manually to launch the few games it is needed for, such as this 'Sonic' release.
