Ok, I've read up on everything and I understand what needs to be done, the problem is I have NO money, and just a handful of PS2 games. I have check them and I did not see an .elf files on any of them.

Does anybody know/tried if I can replace any other files with the .elf. I saw someone mention that you could replace a .irx but I have seen nothing to support that. Is it possible to replace them, or any other file

I was also wondering if it is possible to replace a movie file .dat with a .elf or will that not work because its not expecting that

    I have a PS2 slim SCPH-70012

Here is a list of what games I have to work with:
Final Fantasy X, X-2, XII, The Bouncer, Gran Turismo 4, Katamari Damacy, Xenosaga, .hack/infection, Kingdom Hearts, Shadow of the Colossus, Naruto: Uzumaki chronicles, InuYasha: The Secret of the Cursed Mask

A swap disc(Like the functionality of Swapmagic)?

I don't think that such a method would work for your console(A SCPH-70012 slimline) nor for PS2 games.... someone correct me if I am wrong. The closest self-creatable "swap disc" trick I am aware of is for PS1 games, but I am not sure if it would work for our Slimline PS2s. Even so, you would need a legit PS1 game.

If you want a disc like Swapmagic then your only option is to get a legit copy(You can't copy a Swapmagic disc). Another way is to get someone else (Wiah a PS2 of the same region code) to help you install FMCB.

Does anybody know/tried if I can replace any other files with the .elf. I saw someone mention that you could replace a .irx but I have seen nothing to support that. Is it possible to replace them, or any other file
A .elf file is like a PC's .exe file. It is run by the PS2. You can't just replace them. Anyway, the PS2 won't just accept any burned disc, but only discs with a special "code" printed very close to it's hub (Meaning that it has to seem legit to the PS2).

    @ TheDave
I'd try to get some older games or even a PS2 Demo disc if you can. Most newer games after 2001 may have a disc check before running an ELF, so those will fail with a red screen.

It is possible to create a 'swap' disc to be used to run a homebrew app. There is a tutorial in the FMCB guides where you can replace an ELF file from some PS2games and use both its original and the modified backup to boot an app like uLaunchELF, Cogswap, Swapmagic, etc.

Its not down to any particular method, as its still trial & error per game, except for those reported with the specifics on what to do.

    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

As far as I know, you need that .elf file on your original game disc.
I know for a fact that 007 Agent under fire works, but the other 007 games don't.
However, I did this myself with Hitman: Blood Money. Luckily, I found out that game has 2 .elf files, One for a demo of another game.

Either buy a agent under fire for cheap or look through your games' directories on your computer.

Ok, now the steps to making a swap disk and using it to install FMCB:
Unfortunately, the thread I read the process off of on sksapps seems to be gone. However, this site seems to have the process down almost exactly as I did it. http://www.1emulation.com/forums/ind...howtopic=28441. The only thing I did differently was to copy the game files directly from the disk onto my HD and modify the original .elf from there...then burn the image.

ELF files on game discs are seldom named with that file extension. The only way to be sure of their identity is to inspect them in a hex editor, to see if they begin with something that looks like an ELF header. Such a header begins with the four characters "|ELF", or in hex code '7F 45 4C 46'.

There is always at least one such file on every game disc, that being the main program file of the game itself, and it is named according to the product code of that game. (Such names often starting with "SLxS_" or "SCxS_" where 'x' varies with the region.)

But that file is useless for our purposes, as we need an ELF launched later, by that game.
Many games do not have such a secondary ELF, and are then unsuitable for such swapping.

Does anybody know/tried if I can replace any other files with the .elf.
No, that will not work. The only reason why it works when replacing an ELF file is because the game itself already contains the ELF launching code to start that file. But if you replace a file only used for some other purpose, such as holding sound or text data, then the only effect will be to replace those sounds or texts by garbage (the content of the ELF file you inserted).

I saw someone mention that you could replace a .irx but I have seen nothing to support that.
Theoretically it would be possible to gain control over the console through an IRX file as well, since that too is an executable file format. Although it would require entirely different programming compared to the ELF replacement, since an IRX does not even execute on the same processor as an ELF does. (ELFs run on EE==Emotion Engine, IRXs run on IOP==I/O Processor).

Is it possible to replace them, or any other file
Replacing 'other files' would serve no purpose. To gain full control of the console in a normal manner it must be an ELF that the game can execute through some known command (or in-game sequence of events).

Using an IRX in a similar way would require development of an entirely new method for it, so at present that too must be described as impossible (as yet).

I was also wondering if it is possible to replace a movie file .dat with a .elf or will that not work because its not expecting that
The reason why it will not work is because such files are not executed as programs, but merely used as input data for a (kind of) media player built into the game.

    Best regards: dlanor
