Loading psx games on V7 fat ps2 with flip top
Loading psx games on V7 fat ps2 with flip top –

I have a V7 fat ps2 with a flip top and freemcboot installed, and I am having trouble running Ps1 backups on it. I thought that I would just have to do a browser swap or go into the Psx Launcher, but I found out that for Ps2 versions 8 and under, you need a boot disc such as Breaker Pro, Gameshark, or Action Replay.
I burned two games with Alcohol 120 at 4x write speed (lowest it will go.) Should I burn at a faster speed?
Well, I have an Action Replay Psx Disc that came with the Ps2 version of Action Replay, but I can't seem to get it to work. After I press X after swapping the disc the game just freezes at the Playstation Logo. Any idea of what I should do? Below are some screencaps of the Action Replay screens and the disc. Also, the Action Replay disc has a blue bottom, not black, if it matters.

with modern blank media, burn at 50% of the blank media's max speed. Also, I have the exact same version of that program, except it's Gameshark and not ARMax. Works like a champ for swapping ps1 games.

Sorry, but how do I found out what my blank medias max speed is? Also, are you saying It's a problem with how I'm burning them, or how I launch them? Also, I thought you were supposed to burn at the lowest speed possible.
EDIT: I found out what the problem was. I burned it as a media disc, not A playstation disc. Thanks for the help.

the maximum speed is usually on the disc somehwere. say it may be a 48x, then 24x would be good. 16x for CD-R media is always good for me.

Alcohol 120% has a "Datatype:" setting in its 'Image Burning Wizard' window, which allows you to choose between various preset data types, including "Play Station" and "Play Station 2" for PS1 CDs and PS2 CDs respectively.
It is also important to understand that for PS1 CDs you should never use standard ".iso" files, as they are unable to handle all stuff that is relevant for most PS1 CDs, including CDDA audio tracks and subchannel data (commonly used for copy-protection).
The best format for preserving everything is the CloneCD format. Alcohol also implements some format of its own, but this has never been in widespread use for PS1 stuff, so I'd advise against using it, no matter how technically 'good' it might be.

I honestly don't know what the trial version can or can't do, as I have the full version.
Why don't you just test it yourself ?
All it will cost you is some time, as you don't have to go through with a burn if you don't find that "Datatype:" entry box or if it doesn't allow for the "Play Station" setting in that trial version.
